Delay in Remote Desktop Connection. What are possible solutions?

Recommended Posts

Yeah looks like hop 7 is not very responsive - but since your not seeing longer pings after it, it would mean that its just slow in answering the icmp request.

Now if you were seeing long returns from the hops after, then where it jumps in speed would normally point you to where the problem is in the network.

If your saying you don't have the problem when connected to the modem, then that pretty much rules out a network issue and something with your router. Are you wired to router when having the problem or only wireless does the problem happen. Are there other devices connected to this router at the same time your testing.

I would wire to your router, and disconnect every other client both wired and wireless other than you. If you don't have issues then, then do same test with you the only one on the wireless connection. If still not a problem then points to something else on your network causing the router to have problems. Are you doing any sort of p2p through this router? Anything that would be doing heavy upload/download while your connecting, or creating lots and lots of connections like p2p.

I have decent timings now arounf hob 7... 17 ms.

It turns out is't the UTP goinf to my WD Live TV.

This thing had issues when connecting and finding my network.

I guess I know the reason why.....

Unplugged the cable and now I have fast(er) internet...

EDIT:

Changed the UTP cable from router to WD device and now I have 17 ms around hob 7.

So I think the previous UTP cable is broken. Can this be an option?

Yes, RDC is active. So far no delay... luckily.

It turns out that some cable swaps - I haven't changed te UTP cables/bought new ons - to different GBit ports on the router.

Tomorrow is more a testing day in real life - also with my notebook.

I post my findings in this thread tomorrow.

I guess the testing and your suggestions did work in the troubleshooting. Thx for that... so far.

Delay and hiccups occur in RDP due to various reasons such as insufficient bandwidth, server down, firewall issues etc. What you can do is, try using various remote support services such as logmeinrescue.com, gosuportnow.com etc and check whether your remote connection works flawlessly or no.

Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics.
