The end of the year is almost here, with most game development studios taking a break to give their teams some time to recharge their batteries. Hitman developer IO Interactive still had one last announcement to make, though it's not a good one for James Bond fans. The studio today revealed that its upcoming title, 007 First Light, has been delayed.
Thankfully for fans, the delay isn't a massive one. Instead of landing on March 27, 2026, as previously announced, the action game will now be reaching its promised platforms on May 27, 2026.
IO Interactive said that this has been the most ambitious project it has ever worked on, aiming to bring an "unforgettable James Bond experience" that promises "globe-trotting, spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and more."
It added that these two extra months will be used to polish the title, as it is already fully playable from start to finish.
"The game is progressing well and is fully playable from beginning to end, so these additional two months will allow us to further polish and refine the experience, ensuring we deliver the strongest possible version at launch," explained IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak in a social media post. "We’re confident this sets 007 First Light up for long-term success, and we sincerely appreciate the patience and continued support we’ve received ever since we revealed the game."
The game is slated to deliver an original story that reveals the origin of the iconic super-spy. The studio also revealed recently that the main villain of this storyline will be played by Lenny Kravitz, who is taking the role of Bawma, the largest black-market dealer in the Western Hemisphere.
007 First Light is releasing on May 27, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
