Have 4S but want large screen - which Android device do you suggest?

Recommended Posts

Wow, I just wrote out a detailed reply to you and then tried to middle click the page 1 button to check the OP for details and it didn't open a new tab so I lost all I wrote.

Anyway, bottom line, I'd take the One X out of what you listed for sure. Consider the One XL also if your carrier supports LTE and offers it in your area and you want it. The dual core S4 is basically like an A15 and can hold it's own against the quad core A9s, all while being more efficient. I'm guessing removable battery and sd cards aren't too terribly important to you or else you wouldn't have had an iPhone before, but I don't consider them necessary with Spotify and cloud storage, and an easy 24 hours of battery life on my One XL. The more solid construction and true 720p screen are far more important to me on the One X vs the SGSIII.

And the Note is just out of date compared to the other two. Don't bother when you can get a HOX for nearly the same price. Same screen resolution, higher pixel density which means you won't be losing screen real estate, and it'll look better. I change my DPI and it looks fantastic.

I can go into far more detail about them, and had before I lost everything I typed. If you have any other questions, ask away.

Apple has long contested that specs don't matter, and with the iPhone 5 they've proven their point.

It's got worse specs than the Galaxy S3 (1GB of RAM, dual-core CPU at 1.3GHz vs 2GBs of RAM and a dual-core processor at 1.51GHz), but the iPhone 5 consistently outperformed it, by considerable margins.

That means everything the iPhone 5 does is snappy and fast, from opening apps to graphically intensive animations. Even the notorious "Welcome back to Game Center" banner doesn't make games stutter or lag. Loading screens disappear only moments after appearing. Detailed tests and reports have found the iPhone 5 to be the fastest smartphone there is. The iPhone 5 can only seem like a "minor upgrade" until you hold it. It's not until the phone is in your hand that you realize just how much has really changed.

That's because iOS was programmed by a gnat. It's so plain and simple it's stupid. No offense.

I am going to take the high road and explain to you what the big deal with that is.

iMessages are huge when it comes to iphones. iphones do a really good job dealing with MMS and group messages. androids do an AWFUL job with that. it's super annoying to have a group chat with 3 friends who are sending messages and pictures back and fort over wifi while I sit there with my S3 waiting for the network to load a small text that has to be sent as an MMS because it's a group message.... and yes I have tried all the messaging apps. none of them work properly. 3 things I do on a phone. text, email, use maps. unfortunately, my S3 doesn't do any of those the way i want it to.

I'm confused. Why are you all messaging each other if you're sitting next to each other? This sounds extremely bizarre. Why even hang out?

how long have you had the iphone? I am too used to it and all my friends have iphones. it's really annoying not to have an iphone when the rest of your friends do.

Really? You after the "cool" factor or something? A lot of my friends have iPhones and a lot Androids. Dont care what they have really.

Whatever Android you get, do yourself a favor and apply a pure Google ROM to it. Much better Android experience with it pure Google and none of Samsung's crap loaded on it.

He already explained his issue:

I can't really justify the ?410 price for the S III, it's just not different enough from my 4S.

1) SDCard Slot

2) User replaceable battery

3) Big high resolution screen

I don't know abut you but for those three features alone it makes the upgrade worth it. Btw, are you looking at getting it on a postpaid plan or prepaid?

I stream everything, so an SD Card slot isn't useful to me.

Also, I have an external battery for my iPhone 4S, had no issues with it.

Note has a bigger screen ;) And I can get an excellent quality second-hand Note for ?275.

I'll be buying it out-right.

I'm confused to. Where does he say that? :)

Why not wait some more for the Lumia 920?

And for the three phones you listed, well, basically it really depends on your needs. Galaxy S3 is the most well-balanced and well-supported one, including all those third-party custom ROMs (which is actually quite important for Android devices). It's also the most expensive out of the three.

HTC One X is basically the best camera and music Android phone, it produces better photos than the S3, has superior music quality, and somewhat slower, and cheaper. Third-party custom mod support is not as good as the S3. Also it's SLCD screen is smoother (but less color vibrant) than S3's PenTile screen.

The Galaxy Note, on the other hand, is only good if you really want a phone and a tablet combined. It's really quite bulky as a phone, custom ROMs support is also not as good as the S3, and camera is not as good as the other two. My main gripe about the Galaxy Note is that it cannot fit into a trouser pocket comfortably, well the other two devices can.

I'd say if you really want a large screen device, a real tablet is better. The Galaxy Note is still a bit small for good gaming experience IMO, and you have to put it into a bag just like a real tablet.

    • AMD releases hotfix for driver install issues on Windows 10 PCs by Taras Buria Earlier this week, AMD released an important graphics driver update. Version 26.6.2 brought AMD FSR 4.1 support to the previous-gen Radeon lineup, the RX 7000 series, giving users better upscaling tech that was previously locked to the newest GPUs. However, the driver turned out to be a little buggy, with users reporting installation issues on systems still running Windows 10. AMD quickly acknowledged the bug and today released a hotfix to resolve the problem. The AMD 26.6.3 Hotfix update is now available for download from the official website. Given that it is a hotfix release, it has only one change in its release notes: AMD announced the update on its official X account and added that a WHQL driver update with the necessary fixes would be released next week. Meanwhile, users can apply the hotfix or roll back to the previous driver using the official AMD Cleanup Utility. You can download AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.3 Hotfix Preview Driver from the official website here. It is compatible with all currently supported graphics cards and 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. Full release notes are available on the same page.

    • Amazon Prime Day 2026 deal sees Samsung Odyssey 49" 240Hz QD-OLED monitor at lowest price by Sayan Sen Earlier today we covered a very good deal on JBL's BAR 800 Dolby Atmos soundbar system as the unit is available for just $600 as part of Amazon Prime Day 2026 deals. That's not all though as there are many more discounts to choose from. If you are looking for a high-end monitor, Samsung's 49 inch G9 QD-OLED gaming monitor is a solid deal too as it's currently just $855 (purchase link under the specs table down below). It is a super-ultrawide (32:9) 1440p curved gaming monitor and as such should offer a very immersive experience. The G93SC is a 49-inch QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) screen and that means it should have excellent contrast as well as color reproduction. Brightness is a bit lacking though so if you are looking to set it up in a relatively bright room, you may be better off with something else. Speaking of external light and brightness, the major difference on the G93SC vs the newer G93SD is that the latter comes with Samsung's "Glare Free" technology to reduce glare while the C model packs a glossy finish. The technical specifications of the Samsung G93SC are given in the table below: Specification Value Panel Type OLED Screen Shape Curved Screen Curvature 1800R Resolution DQHD (5120 × 1440) Aspect Ratio 32:9 Brightness (Typical) 250 cd/m² Brightness (Minimum) 200 cd/m² Contrast Ratio 1,000,000:1 HDR Support VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 HDR10+ HDR10+ Gaming Response Time 0.03 ms (GTG) Refresh Rate Up to 240 Hz Viewing Angle 178° Horizontal / 178° Vertical Color Support 1 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% DCI-P3 (CIE1976) Adaptive Sync FreeSync Premium Pro / G-SYNC Compatible DisplayPort 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 HDMI 1 × HDMI 2.1 Micro HDMI 1 × Micro HDMI 2.1 USB Hub 3 × USB 3.0 Speakers Built-in Speaker Output 5W × 2 Channels Operating Temperature 10°C – 40°C Operating Humidity 10–80% (Non-condensing) Stand Type Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) Height Adjustment 120.0 ± 5.0 mm Tilt -2° (±2°) to 15° (±2°) Wall Mount 100 × 100 mm (VESA) Included HDMI Cable HDMI-to-Micro HDMI Cable Included DisplayPort Cable Yes Get it at the link below: Samsung 49" Odyssey G93SC Series Curved Gaming Monitor, QD-OLED: $854.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US with Prime) Prime subscription can be cancelled within three business days at no cost. • Actually Windows 11 is the GUI from Windows 10 X slapped onto Windows 10. Hence the many performance issues and initial limitations of the UI, like all the restrictions on the task bar placement and features. You could not even right click on the Taskbar and bring up task manager when it first shipped. Windows 10X was truly a new OS from the ground up. Basically a lightweight OS that ran containers for various app types. Win32 got its own container. Performance was not good and OEM’s pushed back on it, but wanted a new OS to push Pc sales. Hence Windows 11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10X
