So perfect it doesnt have proper maps or turn by turn navigation. Its not butthurt, its pity, seeing the ignorance of hte iSheep defending such an inferior product.

has it occurred to you sitting in your ivory tower of judgement that your pity is not asked for?

i am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't know that ios 6 has turn by turn navigation.

in summary, thank you for your thoughts.

Download BetterBatteryStats. It's doesn't happen 100% of the time, but you'd be surprised at how often Google Maps wakelocks your phone and uses your GPS to determine your location. I can't say exactly what Google is doing with this information, but it's not related to Latitude, and my guess is they are using that location information. There are a lot of posts about this issue, but it seems like it's a concession of having Google Maps. There is no setting that will disable it, other than turning off all of your location services. When you turn on the location services, you even have to click the "Agree" button saying you're ok with Google uploading your anonymous location data in the background, even while nothing is running. Google is no saint, they aren't offering Android out of the goodness of their heart, they want to be the first layer of interaction that accepts your data, hence why they are pushing Chrome and Android so heavily.

I've lost quite a bit of battery on occassions because my Google Maps will turn my GPS/Location services on for 5-6 minutes.

Hasn't happened to me. I have battery stats, I can also kill running processes on a whim if I choose.

How do you figure Google and Apple measure the traffic congestion on the maps apps? Simple. They track you. They know where you are and how fast you're going at all times.

It's really not that big of a deal. But if it bothers you, don't have a smartphone period.

I hate Apple and hope they fail. Yes, you heard me right... companies that control too much market is a bad thing and are bad for the world as a whole.

You do realize the hypocrisy of that statement right? If Apple falls, then Android controls damn near 95% of the smart phone market. If Android falls, Apple gets it. People need to stop focusing on bashing them and focusing on bringing on a competitor.

Good point. I accept that. However, I don't have any location services activated unless I'm running GPS on a trip. It kills battery, and just like what is being discussed here, I don't want someone tracking me.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
