HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- A 10-year-old boy shot his sister and then turned the gun on himself, investigators said.

Walker County sheriff's deputies said the shooting happened on Duke Road near Highway 30 late Thursday.

Detectives said Coby Tucker walked into his 15-year-old sister's room and opened fire.

Ashley Tucker was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition and was in good condition on Friday afternoon. She is a student at Huntsville High School.

Detectives said Coby fatally shot himself. He was a student at Huntsville Intermediate.

Investigators have not said how Coby got the gun, but they did say that the family has a gun safe in the home. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Deputies said the children's mother was at home at the time of the shooting but was apparently unaware that her son had a gun.

"Once she heard the shots, she responded and called 911," Detective Greg Williams said.

The children's father was at work at the time of the incident, investigators said.

Officials have not said if the parents will face any charges.

Deputies said they have never been called out to the family's home before.

Huntsville Independent School District officials said counselors are available to students or employees who need support.

Yay GOP you're right, gun control is lame!

Really, without any other info you post crap like that, how lame.

Sorry, but the truth is with the number of guns out there in house holds and the few times that this happens there is no reason to have more laws. It serves no purpose. More children are killed by the medical industry 83,000 a year compared to 3000 by guns (including gang shootings of 21 year old).

These numbers were published about 5 years ago by the AMA and used to push more gun control, but missed the point, as your comments do. How about more gun safety. There have been several stories about people attacking people with knifes and hurting them, but I only see the Brits setting limits on the size of knifes at this point.

Gun control was non-existent if the boy knew how to get into the safe. At least the girl is still alive

While guns do kill people, even if you took away the guns, the would still just use a really large rock.

Exactly even if you took away grenade launchers and rpg's they would still just use guns.

time to go back to the 80's answer me this one ? did we ever hear of kids killing parents or sisters brothers so damm offen answer is NO

in the 90 same thing NO

in the 2000 A LITTLE

now in 2012 its like little mom can i have pizza money she says no he pulls put a gun murders the whole family and self. why u may ask

pizza money

now u can blame the parents but that wouldnt help you could blame video games but if u do again u would have to blame the parents for lets little bobby age 4567891011121314151617 to play 17 plus games is that smart no because one day you the PARENT will say no or ground him from the 360 ps3 wii 3ds and one day wind up dead for that i dont feel sorry for any of them.

but if he is bullied in school everyday since he was 4 till 13 14 and no one will listen to him he does the only 2 things he thinks is right

one go kill everyone in school or to kill self and after he does one or the other than his story gets out in the news we could of saved bobby but its to late maybe he didnt come home bloody eought for MOM OR DAD to see he needs help they go to the school tell the adults who's job it is to protect little bobby from bullies and what do they do SFA and there goes another kid in the wooden box six feet deep because no one helped them.

now did the gun kill him of course the bullet did he did pull the trigger but if he didnt have a gun he would of had a hammer axe or whatever who's next tommrow guess we wait because this is going at a crazy rate whats this 4 or 5 in the last 2 months

my 2 cents read it like it hate it

Motive is important here. Was he just playing around with the gun, crazy, etc? If he did get the gun from home then this could be child endangerment. Not because of the gun but because it was not SECURE enough to keep out of harms way. If it was locked the kids should not have the code. As for knife comment...a knife is not a gun. I mean you can stab someone with a pen if you wanted.

Anyway sad for the family and this kid was really disturbed and know one saw it.

Yay GOP you're right, gun control is lame!

The blame here doesn't belong to gun laws. If the family had the gun properly stored in the safe and with the gun in a safe position (magazine out and the slide locked with a cable lock, assuming they used a semi-auto) then this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't store a gun in the ready position, with one chambered, in a home with kids.

If I felt the need to have a gun ready to use while in that home, maybe due to issues in the area or whatever, I would use a locking holster and open-carry in the home; allowing me to ensure the gun was in my sight at all times (I would fall back on a very good safe with an alarm in my room while sleeping).

It is the job of the parents and gun owner to keep the gun out of the hands of kids. Parents bear the same responsibility for a lot of items in their home, like rat poison.

    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
    • Go on, I'll bite. How does windows (nice comment on an 'article' which doesn't actually involve it ) lock users out of their data then? Been using it since 3.1 back in 92 and not once have I been locked out of my data? Perhaps you mean Bitlocker? In which case the average user (who doesn't mess about) will have been forced to use a MSA, and in which case the recovery key would have been saved to said account..... If the user did happen to bodge around and not use an MSA then Bitlocker wouldn't have become live (as it cannot without a safe place to store the key) I want to point out Bitlocker and MSA are not connected and you can of course force it on without a safe place to store the key, but you do that with your eyes open. So your standard consumer who knows no better sets up an MSA, gets bitlocker and a recovery key stored off box, with a route to reset their password. All of this notwithstanding the fact, if your data is important, you back it up, no ifs, no buts, no-ones responsibility other than your own. Important data lives in at least two locations, one of which is offline and recovery is tested, otherwise that data wasn't really that important. Disks, fail, laptops get lost, phones end up down the toilet, tablets get stolen, if your only copy of data is on a single device you're doing it wrong.
    • Clearly that feature isn't for us. It's for the ad spam marketers so they can more directly target us about going to places we might want to go again...but without understanding context clues. Like for the flight someone took for a friend's funeral. We want to be reminded of that every time we open an app, a browser, or email, right? Right, Siri?
    • Is your Apple Watch supported? Check the watchOS 27 compatibility list by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off WWDC 2026 with a ton of announcements, mostly centered around Apple Intelligence improvements, the Siri AI, and Liquid Glass updates. However, there is a lot of other stuff that couldn't catch the limelight. Let's talk about watchOS 27 and which models are supported by the newest operating system. According to the Cupertino giant, watchOS 27 will be supported on the following Apple Watch models when it arrives later this year: Apple Watch Ultra 3 Apple Watch Series 11 Apple Watch SE 3 Apple Watch Series 10 Apple Watch Ultra 2 It's a stark contrast with last year's watchOS 26 update, which had almost a dozen Apple Watch models in its list of supported devices. Apple supported models all the way back to Apple Watch Series 6. That said, if you own one of the five models, you'll need an iPhone 11 (or later) with iOS 27 to install the latest update. Yes, Apple has shown some extra love to the iPhone 11, and it old horse supports the iOS 27 update. watchOS 27 beta 1 is now available for developers and interested power users through the Apple Developer Program. So, if you're among those who like to play with fire, you can download it to your supported Apple Watch. Otherwise, the public beta for watchOS 27 will be available next month. The freshly baked Apple Watch update comes with Siri AI - an advanced, fully conversational version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence due for later this year. A new dynamic app grid features icons for five Siri-suggested apps. You can use a new tap gesture to open a widget in the Smart Stack, and a new Find My app finally clears the mess of Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People on Apple Watch. Workout Buddy can run without an iPhone nearby and offers new insights based on data, including your progress for pace, distance, and workout duration. Apple improved its motion tracking algorithms to measure the distance of indoor treadmill runs and walks more precisely. Speaking of other changes, the music playback on watchOS 27 starts faster and you can create custom passes for any membership or card that uses a QR code or barcode, then easily access them in the Wallet app or pin in the Smart Stack.
    • "and pull old flight details from your email during back-and-forth conversations" The Siri I've become to know and trust. I've always wanted to pull info on old flights. /s
