windows 8 Weird brightness problem

Hello. I am running Windows 8 Release Preview on my desktop. One time I started windows and the screen brightness was very low everywhere but the mouse cursor was very bright. To go back to normal brightness I have to use CNET Desktop Lighter program every time I load windows (it is used to adjust brightness on laptops). This is weird because I am on a desktop and not on a laptop. The brightness feature in the settings (bar on the right) is "Unavailable". Any idea? Fix?

Try checking for updated monitor drivers , disable adaptive brightness . If all else fails ,try restoring to a earlier point before your problem started .
