Close of threads that are non tagged in Jokes section: Really neccessary?

Hey

There have been several intresting threads in the past that have gotten closed because there arent tagged.

I know tagging them is obligated (I dont agree with it but it is Neowin rules) but closing them for not being tagged? Come on. There are threads that are complete flamewars and are not closed.

My opinion: If a thread is not tagged in the jokes section, a mod can tag it himself. BUT, the OP recieves a warning.

I hardly even notice the tags section. Its not that I dont want to tag a thread, it is just that you make the title and forget about the tags...

What do you guys thing?

Indeed. To further solve the problem, the check mark to tag should be clicked by default. Maybe a web dev can work this in?

Or a default tag of "Joke" or "Funny"

the check mark to use first tag as prefix is actually checked by default in the jokes section now

but yes maybe taking it a little further and having the 'Joke' tag selected by default wouldn't be a bad thing

Never used the tags myself - but I can understand them wanting a tag.

Vs closing threads after the fact, wouldn't it be possible to just not allow the actual submit of the thread unless it has tags?

WW - you can add any tag you like, can't you? I don't start a lot of thread myself, not 100% sure on that. Why can you not just start using WWJ on them?

yeah isn't it just make a subject like [WWJoke] Subject here ?

edit: was thinking of another site, just write the tag in the tag text box as you want it

Now that I got spanked for. I actually liked that idea because you could clearly see which jokes I created. I actually got a person PM over that one. Although i'll try making it a tag under the subject.

So it seems joke section only has list, but in tech section they are freeform. So guess you would have to use [WWJ} or something in the subject.

And that would be a bad thing? hehehe - my attempt at humor ;) I think in all the years here at neowin I have posted in the joke section like once.

I don't see what would be wrong with WWJ in subject?? It would make it easy for fans (lack of a better word) of your style easy to find them.

Let me clear up some things. Firstly, no one is "warned" for not tagging a thread. Your warning level remains the same. Secondly, it's necessary because simply fixing it for a member can easily go unnoticed. Should a moderator add the tag him/herself again? What about the third time? Finally, it's not hard to add the tag. In fact, we've made it easier for you to tag it by checking off the "Use first tag as prefix" by default.

It's not that hard to take notice of the tag box which is directly blow the title box too:

I wonder if we'll have to add a pop-up that tells you to add the tag, complete with video and voice over from Big Bird himself.

Anyway, we don't need another thread about the same issue (currently a non-issue).

      Microsoft Teams gets smarter at spotting sneaky meeting bots by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is set to receive a couple of new features soon, including a dedicated Recap app and a rather controversial location tracking functionality. The Redmond tech giant has also explained how it has made online communication and collaboration a lot more performant this year. Now, the company has detailed more secure bot admission mechanisms, as first reported by us in March 2026, and now available in Teams. As the use of AI has expanded across enterprise environments, Microsoft has begun allowing users to integrate bots into their meetings for various tasks, such as note-taking. While this has a tangible productivity benefit for users, Microsoft has highlighted how misconfiguration has allowed bots to join meetings that they shouldn't. This has created security and privacy risks, which Microsoft is now combating using a new Teams admin policy that allows organizers to control how external bots access meetings. Admins can leverage a policy called Manage external bots and their access to meetings. The default configuration is "When detected, require approval before joining", which places detected bots in a lobby before they are explicitly admitted into the meeting. The other option disables the experience. Microsoft has also requested admins to only allow organizers and co-organizers to manage access to a meeting, so that other people don't randomly allow bots into meetings. Teams will now be able to leverage infrastructure signals to intelligently detect and distinguish between bots and humans. Microsoft will soon also trial a registration experience for independent software vendors (ISVs) to build a system that registers a bot with Microsoft, so it is marked as a "known" bot. Teams will also categorize bots as trusted and suspected threats so that organizers can quickly identify which bots they want to allow into a meeting.       With the current hardware prices Microsoft should lift the restriction. Then if you have the correct TPM then allow you to use X feature, if you don't have the correct TPM then don't but still actually let you run windows. 11.
