OBAMA ACCEPTS 'OSAMA BIN LADEN' DONATIONS

No block to foreign money ? not even from dead terrorists

The acceptance of foreign contributions is strictly illegal under U.S. campaign finance law.
The apparently foreign-based contributions were conducted as a test after a flurry of media reports described the ability of foreigners to donate to the Obama campaign but not to Mitt Romney?s site, which has placed safeguards against such efforts.
One $15 donation was made at BarackObama.com using a confirmed Pakistani IP address and proxy server. In other words, as far as the campaign website was concerned, the donation was openly identified electronically as coming from Pakistan.

Huh? what? Obama breaking the law? naw, not obama!

obama_kool_aid.jpg

hahaha Conspiracy theories. This is VERY real world issue. get a grip! I provided a news source. layoff it is an issue as per law goes and is an issue that is international as the IP and proxy server was in Pakistan. so this is legit to both real world issue AND political issue. either way

So the news website named themselves "osama bin ladin" and used the website's electronic donation page to donate money from their gift card credit card... to make it news....

amusing.

So an American abroad can't donate to the Romney campaign? That's silly. Especially since that American can vote. Military soldiers stationed abroad can't donate to Romney?

It should be (is?) based on your bank's financial records, not your location. But even that is easy to get around.

Your conspiracy theories do not belong in here. This is Real World Issues.

I don't have the time to figure out the validity of the site linked, but the story isn't a conspiracy in any manner. The story states that the "Bin Laden" account was fake and setup to test the Obama Campaign's adherence to US Law prohibiting foreign donations. If information is accurate then the story is worth a read, irrespective of your political leaning.

Yes Chris...crazy conspiracy stuff does not belong in RWI which is why it was moved. Also the site you're sourcing is know for being biased and more than a little crazy. They are as reputable as the Weekly World News.

Here's a little info about WND for everyone:

WorldNetDaily (WND) is an American web site that publishes news and associated content from the perspective of U.S. conservatives and the political right.[1]

They are biased by default.

Indeed, except it wasn't really a foreign donation. It was still a domestic donation where a news group attempted to commit fraud in order to make news.

Instead the managed to make themselves look stupid. If they were wanting to have a real story they would have sought a real foreign donation to test things.

Also if you don't have the time (less than minute on my phone) to verify validity then why comment that it's not a conspiracy thing going on?

Verifying the validity of the site requires me to read reputable sources of them being caught misrepresenting the facts in the bulk of their other stores as well as factual inaccuracies in this story. That takes more than a few seconds and I'm not interested in expending the time for this issue. I was simply pointing out that this isn't a conspiracy story from the information presented in the article.

A fraud was perpetuated by WND, they are the ones that may be guilty of violating US laws.

I do agree though, the Obama site needs to tighten its filters and prevent this from happening.

Contributions in the name of another person -- are not permitted. Note: Parents may not make contributions in the names of their children. Persons under 18 may contribute, but must do so willingly, under their own names, and with their own money.

I saw it, then it just vanished on refresh......... :s

Good to know I'm not going crazy. I'm on my phone now and posted that from my PC. I thought maybe I was wrong and it didn't go through or something. So that's weird ...

Hmm glad it wasn't me. I've asked for someone to look into this as that's not cool. That's my last public post though since I don't want to go OT on this.

That said the site has had some very off the wall tabloid style stories and has known 'unusual' writers that even Fox News has trouble taking seriously.

A "source" that seriously suggests that the "Bible code predicts Romney winning" is not a serious news source.

It wasn't me. I believe in that if someone has an opinion or view contrary to mine, they have every right to express it.

Okay okay it was me. I deleted the posts.

Okay, no I didn't. But I hope it was a mistake because even though Neowin is a dictatorship, I hope free speech has SOME value here. Even if the speech is viewed as unpopular.

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
