Samsung Galaxy S3 battery suddenly sucks?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why I might be having this problem? This weekend, I would have my batter charged to 100% before bed, when I woke up it was at roughly 95%. Yet, monday, the phone at 100% straight off the charger and on the stand next to the bed... I woke up tuesday morning to a strange sound from my phone. I looked at it. It was a 10% battery warning. I looked in the settings at the battery and it said the screen used up the most battery life. I literally didn't use the phone at all. So, last night I kept the phone on the charger. I woke up this morning to my alarm, and laid in bed playing with my phone. when I got up, I realized the phone was at 82%. I looked at the battery page and it said that the screen used up all of the battery in just 7 minutes and 6 seconds. So theoretically at that pace just sending a few texts a day my battery would only last about 40 minutes... wtf is going on with my phone? It used to be the best battery I had in a phone. I could go without charging it for 1-2 days.

Did you install new apps? If you got it through a carrier and they have carrier apps on it, they sometimes drain the battery through apps running the background. For advertising, obtaining your information etc.

You should try to root it and new install jellybean or stock from android.

Sounds like you have a rogue app that isn't shutting itself down.

I've only had my S3 for about a month, and have Jelly Bean installed. I can easily get about 18 hours of life with heavy activity. That is, listening to music for like 4 hours, 3 hours of streaming Hulu/Netflix, some hours of gaming and facebook/texting. And then I get to about 10% before I charge. But my battery last plenty.

Well, I uninstalled the only 2 apps I installed over the past week, which were both installed on tuesday I believe. They were 'Google Drive' and 'iFunny'. I'll see how things work out. As for Jellybean, I'm on AT&T and it hasn't been released yet. I'm not sure how to go about 'rooting' my phone, or why you would root your phone. Its not an iphone. I literally can do anything I want with my phone without restrictions as it is. With an iphone you almost can't put it in your pocket without apples permission. God forbid you put a case on there that they don't approve of.

Rooting is only if you want up change the Os and mod the he'll out of it. Yes, you can improve battery life but it shouldn't be needed.

Sometimes my phone will say 98 after being on the charger all night. Only time I woke up to low battery was when someone turned off the switch powering the outlet.

You could have a bad battery or like someone else said, a rouge app. Could try a new battery or a factory reset. If doing a reset,I wouldn't load any additional apps for a few days to see if the problem went away.

+1 for the idea that's it's due to an app. I had the same thing happen to my S3 recently... battery life suddenly went to absolute crap. It wasn't even lasting a full day with minimal use. I did a factory reset on it, and the battery life is back to normal.

It could also be a live wallpaper. Recently I downloaded the Super Mario Live Wallpaper. While it is pretty cool, I found that my phone gets really hot when it would just be sitting on the desktop. Hot like I was playing Need For Speed Most Wanted.... but I wasn't doing anything. After just a few minutes of sitting there watching it, I noticed I lost about 4% of battery.

Certain apps and live wallpapers can be programmed very bad, and cause a ton of strain and drain on the phone.

If you can't figure exactly what it is, do a factory reset. If that does work, it was an app. If it doesn't, then as another said, you could have somehow got a faulty battery. If it is the battery, you might want to just invest in this one, as it is a lot better :) http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Extended-Compatible-GT-i9300-T-mobile/dp/B008GWIVTQ

    • This is weird. Mythos is more unrestricted compared to Fable. Technically it poses more risk!!
    • This is a great thing, I always have issues with Verizon while inside of certain football stadiums due to the saturation and walls blocking signal so a LOS way to connect would be great. Verizon was supposed to be offering sat data this year but I've not heard a word of it lately. Dude is sending rockets into space in a cheap manner, low waste foot print and has a great product with solar/battery tech. We would be so far behind China right now if not for him and a push to get back into space.
    • illegally? Proof of that? Seems you are posting misinformation or well a pure straight up lie cause there is zero proof of such a thing. But I get it...
