Cop suspended for dunking his head into five-gallon bucket of ... ?

Ten police officers from Ohio have been reprimanded after a video surfaced online showing one of them dunking his head into a five-gallon bucket of urine on a dare.

An investigation by the Mentor Police Department has revealed that Officer Phil Croucher, a 16-year veteran on the force, was off duty when he carried out the stomach-churning stunt before a Cleveland Browns game on October 14

The video of the act shows Croucher taking off his shirt, with his nine colleagues and other people cheering him on, and plunging his head deep into the urine-filled container.

In return, each of the officer?s co-workers present paid Croucher $50 for the dare totaling $450.

'The fact money was collected for this ?dare,? should not detract from [Croucher] assuming final responsibility for this poor decision,' wrote Lt Tom Powers.

Mentor Police Chief Daniel Llewellyn described Croucher as ?an exceptional? officer whose official file includes at least 14 documents commending him for excellent work, including some from Secret Service and the FBI, WTSP reported.

Croucher will be suspended two days, with one day held in abeyance upon completion of an alcohol evaluation the cost of which will be covered by the City of Mentor.

Croucher could cut the duration of his suspension by half if he attends the evaluation and has no similar conduct for a year, according to Patch Mentor.

Maybe there's some hidden fun in dunking your head in a bucket of your mate's **** that isn't immediately obvious. OK need volunteers to try this out. Make sure you have video of the ****ing and dunking. Must be fun, bunch of drunk cops did it.

Indeed. He didn't do anything illegal, and was off-duty at the time.

This to me definitely heads into 'big-brother' type behavior.

I can see if it was something illegal or something while on-duty, but this was off-duty and was a bet where he made out financially.

I'm not sure that $450 would be enough for me to do it...but I'm sure a number a bit higher (probably quite a bit higher) would induce me to do so.

I can always use the spare cash. :p

5 gallons of urine..... sheesh that is a lot.

Stupid stunt, dumber reaction from his department. Though, I can see the reasoning behind it, because they don't want us to view them as any worse as we already do. But still, over reaction from his department.

I agree with your assessment. Too many people get their knickers in a twist over what someone does on their own time.

I wouldn't even do it for a million dollars. Gross.

Everyone has a price. $1,000,000 is certainly well north of mine :shiftyninja:

What I want to know is why he got suspended for something he did on his own time and out of uniform..

He didn't get suspended for doing it. He got suspended for the video of it leaking online. If you do something that embarrasses your employer, expect consequences.

As a former Officer this disgusts me.

Yeah, but he didn't embarrass his employers. If were in uniform then so be it. If he was on the clock, then so be it.

He is entitled to do whatever he wants when he is off the clock :\

Not quite.

    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
