Windows 8 Sales are actually Amazing - 40 million sold

Recommended Posts

Still, it's clearly not going to be the utter failure everyone here wants it to be.

Unless I'm mistaken, people here did not want it to fail... but rather had issue with how they tried to shove the metro nonsense down everyone's throat. Most have found a way around that and are now quite happily enjoying 8's desktop experience.

I think he was kidding Shane, based on the emoticon. I think he's lumping you with Dot based on evangelistic tone. hahaha, you're not in Dot's league when Dot's going over the deep evangelistic end, lol.

Xbox FTW, but with Windows 8 Desktop Environment, I'm enjoying Gaming right now.

It was indeed just sarcasm, and I was referring more to how he puts down anyone that doesn't like a MS product than general evangelism :p

You are mistaken. I've lost track of the number of times the haters here said that they wanted Windows 8 to fail so MS would reverse course for Windows 9.

Judging by this report, large numbers of ordinary people are embracing Windows 8 including all it's changes. Once again the haters got it wrong.

Judging by this report, ~snip~

I think it'll take much more than 'this report' to prove anything. Indeed, we'll all need to wait until at least next year at this time to say what's what. And who knows what'll happen by then. Ms may indeed release an update that addresses all the outstanding issues.

another factually correct and fanboy free post coming from the one and only MS FUDtrooper, oops I mean Spudtrooper...... :pinch:

Ohhh.. Personal Attacks. Do you feel better about yourself now? Also, you used FUD in the wrong context.. FUD would be all the doom and gloomers who spread "fear" "uncertainty" and "doubt" about the success. 40 million isn't a failure, but hey, you can keep on pretending it is :)

The MS Investor conference is today and I believe the transcript of the investor conference from last night where this was announced may be over NDA after todays call at 8:00 PST.. Maybe they will have some more numbers for you guys to chew on.

Interesting, I want to see a 1 year sales of Windows 7 vs. Windows 8 (just the OS, not Surface tablets or anything else). I think early adopters have flocked, but it will have much slower growth overall compared to W7. Good to see people showing interest though!

when they charge such a good price it's to be expected. I myself purchased 3 product keys, looking at a 4th one. Doing that tends to bring pirates out of the woodwork, especially when the workaround to get the upgrade key to install cleanly is so easy. It's a win win for them, they can charge full price to all the honest folk, and still get revenue from people who otherwise wouldn't buy the OS if they had to pay 100 dollars for one product key.

I'm just the opposite.. surprised by the initial 40 million and thinking it may actually increase as real devices hit the market - surface pro, later gen atoms, i3/i5/i7 systems and eventually Tegra 4 and more modern generation arm as well as a second generation of hardware (6-9 months down the road as oem's get experience) will just push sales.. I've said it a zillion times, there isn't much supply of tablets/touch screens/all in ones with windows 8 on the market yet really.

Some here do seem to believe that.

That was the intent of Microsoft to spin it. Who gives a crap how many licenses are sold if those Windows 8 copies are not on consumer's machines and in use.

They are just spinning and each passing day we are getting more and more information that it's just that.. a spin to hide the real terrible SALES of Windows 8.

I'm going to believe more what OEMs are saying and how bad it is (the same OEMs that actually make a living of selling Windows hardware) rather than Microsoft in this case.

I'll look forward to you making the same argument next time Google make a big deal of the number of Android activations ;)

That's half of it, but remember, Windows 7 was "forced" on people who bought new machines also. ;)

This. No one seemed to care then, minus a few XP die hards. I wonder what happened to them. You don't see them around anymore.

I can't believe the number of people who are complaining about these sales figures when they are counted in exactly the same way as Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

It's sold well, deal with it.

Doesn't matter if they use the exact same way of showing us these figures as they did with XP, Vista or 7

It's MS and if they can bash them they will. It's much cooler. Ask Boz

or Android for that matter. If you live outside the US, in most markets majority phones are Android. People don't have much choice in smartphones.

True, but you can't deny the enthusiasm towards Windows 7 was much greater than towards Windows 8

At least in desktop PC terms.

That said, I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about using Windows 7 on a tablet or touch device.

Certain people in here can't deal with it. Sucks to be them I guess :)

LOL!

Truth.

This is definitely not an unfamiliar cycle we see in the first year a new Windows come out.

When XP came out: "Every geeks that know their crap wouldn't use XP" ...Now it was highly successful and widely used. Though one can blame the fact that there haven't been a new windows for 5+ years since XP.

When Vista came out: "Vista is a huge failure." Though I'll admit it's true for the most part. Eventually, as an OS it became much improved when driver compatibility finally caught up, and of course SP1.

When Windows 7 came out: "I'll stick with XP/Vista for now before I upgrade." "It's new windows, it'll suck like vista." And Windows 7 became one of the best thing since bread and butter.

So Windows 8 comes out, and it's the same old story. This is especially true whenever Microsoft makes a ballsy move and drastically changes the OS. Hater's gonna hate. Oh well.

^ Microsoft should have learned by now not to make such drastic changes to their OS between versions and you wouldn't hear all of that. Gradual is the way to go.

Sure, but then the same people would start complaining that basically nothing changed and it's a lot of money for a 'Service Pack'

    • Can you still click his nose in the about box?
    • In that case this product has no value to me. I'd rather use older Creative SB that were better in my opinion or onboard audio chip.
