Replying to a thread using fast reply takes about ten seconds.

Switching between pages takes about five seconds.

Going from thread view into advanced reply view takes about ten seconds.

Sometimes the site loads so slowly I give up and go do something else!

No issues on other sites, and I visit sites hosted all around the world. Can even stream videos from foreign soil without buffering.

Edit:

Just noticed my status bar gets stuck at "Waiting for eu.projectsunblock.com ..." - slow advert maybe?

Just a question, but does anyone use multiple tabs? I'm only asking because I don't really notice any slow down on Neowin, but at the same time I select a link that may interest me, then switch to another tab to do something else while the page loads. Same for posting, I will hit the "post" button and switch to another tab to do something else while it goes ahead with posting. So far any slow down I've noticed I've been able to figure out that it's been on my end, not on the site's end.

Happens on my side too

Naw man, this happens on my side too, though randomly, it happens at my work connection (8Mb doown / 2up) and at home which is 10mbit down... It does happen randomly in the sense that it's not all the time, but lately, posting/replying is so annoying that it just deters me from doing so.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but this is really killing the forums, read around, there are several people complaining about the same issue, so it's obviously not on "our end", based on very different scenarios.

Did you see my edit? Nearly every time I load a thread it waits for that same site.

I do the same.

This is to do with the staff-bar, I've been trying to get someone to fix this for 2yrs :p

Staff bar? I see this too when "saving post" or saving edit... it takes so long I just close the window even IF the post didn't go through, it's that annoying (having to wait more than 2-3 seconds, let alone more than 10).

Slow for some and not for others couldn't be down to which theme is being used could it ?

This could be placebo, but I just switched to Pegasus and it seems a lot faster. Was previously using Darkside.

Posting is pretty slow still, but navigation seems quicker.

Ive been using Pegasus for a while and I do get some slowdowns but nothing like others are reporting

Nope, def not placebo, darkside theme is not supported and is based off an old "bloated" version of the skin.

Well fix Darkside, I just tried Pegasus and my eyes are burning :-P Back to Darkside for me.

I just had a hang on page loading and FF said it was waiting for 'secure.gravatar' or something close to that url incase that helps

secure.gravatar is avatar images (you make an account and use it with any compatible site and it'll use the picture on the profile for it). Secure implies you're on neowin via https :s.

Also gravatar shouldn't slow it down.

It was just what FF said it was waiting for while the loading circle was stuck spinning, once it stopped saying it was waiting for that url the loading circle stopped and the page finished loading

Just posting what I find to help the mystery :)

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
