A 55-year-old Thomasville construction worker is getting ready to build a new life after winning a $50 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

"Honey, we won the lotto!" That's what Zippy Vonier, 55, announced to his wife Wednesday morning after discovering that he won $50 million.

"My wife was brushing her teeth, and I told her to come in and sit down," said Vonier, a Thomasville resident. "She was just kind of shocked."

Vonier won by matching all of the winning numbers in Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing.

"We got the numbers from a random Quik Pik years ago, and we just kept playing the same numbers," Vonier explained.

The jackpot increased from an advertised $49 million to $50 million after final sales were tallied. Vonier selected the cash option and will receive $38,197,097 before taxes.

Vonier bought the jackpot-winning ticket at Susie Q's #0001, located at 13091 U.S. Highway 319 N. in Thomasville. Georgia Lottery officials presented Vonier with a ceremonial check at the store Friday.

The winning numbers from Tuesday's drawing were 5, 12, 26, 42, and 49, with Mega Ball number 24.

How the **** does the economy works there in USA???

To get the entire face value of the lottery, you have to choose the 26 year annuity payment. You would have to pay pretty much the same amount in taxes though.

Pretty simply actually - the advertised amount in the lotteries is the estimated amount you will recieve if you take the annuity option, which is where the state lottery will put the cash amount (in this case, $38 million) into long-term investments and pay out to you over 25 or 30 years depending on the lottery. In this case, they estimate that $38 million will turn into $50 million over that time. You get taxed every payment you recieve, If you take the cash option, you get the cash amount that the lottery has collected and you get taxed once. Taxes on large winnings regardless of the option taken are currently 35% at the federal level, plus any applicable state taxes.

So they'll get around 13 million after federal taxes, who knows what state taxes on this amount would be.

    • This is weird. Mythos is more unrestricted compared to Fable. Technically it poses more risk!!
    • This is a great thing, I always have issues with Verizon while inside of certain football stadiums due to the saturation and walls blocking signal so a LOS way to connect would be great. Verizon was supposed to be offering sat data this year but I've not heard a word of it lately. Dude is sending rockets into space in a cheap manner, low waste foot print and has a great product with solar/battery tech. We would be so far behind China right now if not for him and a push to get back into space.
    • illegally? Proof of that? Seems you are posting misinformation or well a pure straight up lie cause there is zero proof of such a thing. But I get it...
