They really want the Empire to strike back.

Citing a need for increased ?space superiority? and job creation, over 13,000 people have signed an official petition on WhiteHouse.gov demanding that the United States government secure funds and resources and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016external-link.png.

?By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense,? reads the petition.

'Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.'

- White House petition

As of Monday morning, it had received 13,302 signatures -- far more than nearly every other petition on the site.

A proposal to increase the budget of NASA has received just 3,964 votes. A call for protection for Guatemalan citizens in light of recent earthquakes: 8,563.

A suggestion that federal employees get Christmas Eve off has received 14,646 votes.

Despite the groundswell of enthusiasm for the plan -- which was filed under ?science and space policy? -- it stands little chance of reaching President Obama?s desk. The petition needs another 11,700 signatures to reach the 25,000 threshold necessary for the government to take it seriously.

?The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution,? the website explains. And while the Death Star concept passed the first threshold of 150 signatures, which makes it searchable on the site, it has until Dec. 14 to cross that line.

If it fails, the petitioner may have to scale back his demands: perhaps the right to bear lightsabers?

I think these people are smoking some weed. Probably most of the signers are from weed states.

^^ That's a good point. We wouldn't want a Luke Skywalker wanna be from the dessert states to fly the gorge and drop a bomb down that main shaft. Maybe partition the main gorge? I mean that was a very long ride to the bomb site. What engineer would build such a thing and not see that weakness.

^ Not sure of what that thing is.

I'm down for a Deathstar in orbit so long as they use it to wipe anyone, who wants to regulate (tax) the internet, off the face of the Earth. :shiftyninja:

*to make it clear; I'm talking about the UN.

Thing is... All these people who put their names to such petitions, sign as "Jedi" on government surveys, etc... What they are doing is providing their government with a list of people who are worth "keeping an eye on" as "anti-government" or supposedly "non-conformist". I'm not saying this goes any deeper than that - but you know each of these names is now in a database somewhere with a flag showing their participation.

Or entirely ignored.

oh, I don't know about the weed, but I hope they address the issue of the main reactor, seeing as 2 have already been destroyed by means of attacking the reactor.

At least an Earth built deathstar would have a handrail by the reactor. Health & Safety would ensure it

This petition will probably be completely ignored, but if it gets more than 25,000 signatures, expect a hilarious response from the White House.

If your concerns were valid at all, it would be more for those people who signed those petitions to secede. Nothing is going to happen to them, but their name, location, and IP address are logged in a computer system owned by the federal government.

I don't see a problem with this as long as none of the money is spent on the citizens of the country, After all even if we didn't spend billions on the deathstar we would still be in debt.

In fact I think we should build two just in case, That's the "Fiscally Responsible" thing to do

Would be easier and cheaper to retrofit the Moon. ;)

Not quite--

The moon does not have any things to build upon... where as... Mars has frozen Carbon dioxide and water (that can be used to help terra-form it) not to mention there is more gravity on Mars than on the Moon. Though Venus may also be in the running.

Moon's gravity is aprox 1/6 of Earth

Mercury's gravity is approx 1/3 of Earth

Venus's gravity is approx 9/10 of Earth

Mars's gravity is approx 3/10 of Earth

The Whitehouse have issued an official response to the petition:

US shoots down Death Star superlaser petition

The White House has rejected a petition to build a Death Star - a huge battle-station armed with a superlaser as seen in the Star Wars films.

In a playful response, a senior US government official said the Obama administration "does not support blowing up planets".

The official also said the cost - about $850 quadrillion - was too high.

More than 34,000 people had signed the petition, saying the project would spur job creation and strengthen defence.

They also wanted the government to begin construction by 2016.

The White House is obliged to respond to all petitions that gain more than 25,000 signatures.[/Quote]

    • Good. I hope more people sue them for focusing on this worthless junk.
    • How about fire the guy who approved all the bad decisions? The guy who bought these studios in the first place? Oh wait, Satya is safe with his billions while the workers pay the price.
    • This had nothing to do with games. This is all about management wanting to squeeze as much money from Xbox to keep Microsoft's AI ambitions afloat. Someone has to make money to burn on AI.

The Ultra 9 185H features 16 cores and 22 threads running at up to 5.1 GHz. It also includes a dedicated NPU utilizing Intel AI Boost at 11 TOPS. On the graphics front, the 185H includes the still fairly capable ARC Graphics (not to be confused with the newer ARC 140T) integrated GPU with a max GPU frequency of 2350 MHz across 8 Xe-cores. It has been said that the iGPU is equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce 3050 and GTX 1650 in gaming and synthetic benchmarks. Other highlights include an AMOLED display, LPDDR5x memory at 7467 MT/s, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. AI PC? Although the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H includes a dedicated NPU, it's only 11 TOPS; therefore, it does not qualify as a Copilot+ PC. However, it can reach up to 33 TOPS with a combination of NPU, CPU, and GPU. As I said, although we only reviewed the X14 Pro, the unboxing is the same for the X16 Pro, which I noted in my review. The packaging is quite a nice experience. The outer box houses the X16 Pro box with a small compartment that contains the 5-in-1 Dock ($40 value), which appears to be an "Early Bird" inclusion. Upon removing the box cover, the X16 Pro is revealed sitting in a cardboard compartment with two small booklets of documentation. To the left of the X16 Pro are two cardboard compartments containing the 65W charger and Type-C USB cable.
