More like corn lobbying.

In a lot of other countries coke is made with real sugar. However in North America it's made with high fructose corn syrup because of lobbying.

um...coke is made with real sugar in Canada.......which, the last time i checked, was part of north america.....

Quietly? Really? About as quiet as a Howitzer.

Pepsi and Coke have been moving to using alternatives like acesulfame potassium and Stevia, an extract from the Stevia plant (an herb in the sunflower family that's -300x sweeter than sugar) found in S. Smerica, for several years - this while marketing it under the names Truvia (Coke) and Purevia (Pepsi) in the diet sweetener section. Other companies are also marketing Stevia, one being Stevia In The Raw which is suitable for baking. Other companies offer Stevia extracts in liquid concentrate form.

Stevis has found a big following among diabetics - in some locales in S. America the stevia plant is used as a treatment, and I found that my glucose level took a healthy dive when I switched to it.

Stevia took a long time to get to the US except as an herbal product (couldn't be labeled a 'food') because the sugar and other sweetener companies lobbied the FDA to keep it out. Even now the FDA's not letting in the strongest (and some say the best) of the Stevia extracts.

Uhmm... I don't think so.

i will go get a can right now. in fact e a bottle of coke in my fridge.

don't argue with me. i went to the US on vacation and couldn't stand the taste of the coke i was drinking. i checked the ingerdients took a picture of the can and when i got back to canada compared the pic with a CANADIAN can of coke and sure enough the CANADIAN coke had real sugar listed and tasted like the coke i grew up with

Just google canada coke sugar. On chowhound and redflagdeals you got canadians asking about where to get coke made with sugar. They talk about where to get passover/kosher coke, trini coke, mexican coke etc.

Edit: bottom one is regular canadian coke the top is the seasonal passover one.

I just read this now: sugar/glucose-fructose is an allowed collective term to be used when one of them is being used. Which is a purposely misleading term as sugar is written when infact only high fructose corn syrup is present. Hfcs = glucose-fructose in canada.

The diet sodas I've tasted with acesulfame potassium leave an aftertaste similar to the old saccharine sweetener used years ago, blah.

In fact this is exactly the opposite, combining Aspartame (or sucralose/stevia) with Acesulfame K has several advantages :

- it neutralizes both sweeteners' aftertastes

- it multiplies the sweetening effect (the sum is greater than each parts)

- it chemically bonds and stabilizes them

Well you are one of a kind, anything I've had with more than one sweetener tastes just like metal, it is absolutely disgusting.

Not to mention what it does to your insides.

It's not just me, I had noted by myself when buying sweeteners for my coffee that those containing only one sort of sweetener invariably had an aftertaste (can't stand coffee without sugar, and I drink so many, I had to find an alternative), the worse being stevia (the 1st distributed versions that is). The common denominator to the ones that had no aftertaste was the adjunction of Ace-K. I then looked around and found several articles relating the synergistic properties of this sweetener with others.

Regarding my insides, they're fine, thank you.

They sell sugar'd Coke and Pepsi in the US on occasion as well. Pepsi throwback was real sugar.

Mexican Coke (in the glass bottle) is always real sugar. It's also usually pretty expensive, but it's easy enough to find. Tastes much better.

The bad thing, most of these 'soft' drinks are full of chemicals anyways. Whatever happened to the days of real sugar, flavors, and carbonated water? Greed is what happened :/

God I hope they never put real sugar in diet drinks. What defeat the purpose and I wouldn't be able to drink soda anymore.

Agricultural subsidies. They use it because with them, it's cheaper than sugar.

Sugar is one of the last protected agriculture from imports in to the us, that's one of the reason high cost of sugar (compared to corn syrup).

I get tired of all the warnings, as if all sugars are some terrible poison.

If you have healthy beliefs, and consume a limited amount of sugar, it is NOT going to make you diabetic, and kill you !

In fact I was sharing my personal experience, yours may vary, thank you.

Coca Cola uses Aspartame in its' Diet Coke line.. by feeding the ecoli virus and when it defecates, it leaves a sweet white powder. GD Searle Corp under Don Rumsfeld got it forced through the FDA as a safe sweetener.

why can't they use something like stevia?

They are, starting in Australia with Pepsi Next - which uses stevia. One problem with it is that in a very few people stevia has a slight bitter aftertaste. The solution for this comes from a company who makes a "bitter blocker" that can be added to the stevia.

    • The memory and nvme can be swapped and upgraded with standard parts. But the GPU cannot, which is the weakest part of the box. It's a dead product at these prices.

    • Apple and Tesla trade secrets reportedly exposed following a Tata Electronics cyberattack by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com Tata Electronics has confirmed that it detected a cybersecurity incident in some of its systems. The Indian company is a manufacturing partner of both Apple and Tesla, and the incident may have exposed some trade secrets belonging to the two American companies. The World Leaks ransomware group is said to be behind the attack, and it has reportedly posted up to 200,000 files on the dark web, including component designs and specification documents related to Apple and Tesla products. Tata Electronics told Reuters that its response protocols were deployed immediately and that the “incident has had no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected.” The ransomware group reportedly sent a ransom demand to Tata Electronics, while Apple has launched an investigation into the incident. World Leaks claims it stole more than 200,000 files totaling over 630GB from Tata Electronics. Some database files on the ransomware group’s website are titled "com.apple.factorydata," which could refer to Apple’s iPhone production operations in India. Moreover, some documents reportedly contain material specifications and quality inspection standards for iPhone circuit board components. However, Apple is not the only affected company. A folder found in the World Leaks database is titled "NV36 Chargeport Controller - North America," which may refer to Tesla Model Y components. Additionally, other files in the database reportedly contain drawings related to Tesla’s Project Highland, the internal codename for the EV maker’s updated Model 3 sedan. To support the authenticity of the stolen files, World Leaks has published documents containing footers that read: "This document contains proprietary and confidential information of Apple Inc." and "information contained herein is deemed confidential, proprietary, and a trade secret of Tesla Inc." Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia told Reuters that the database also contains emails, event logs spanning several years, and passport copies of employees, including foreign nationals. Both Tesla and Apple have declined to comment on the scale of the incident.
