aww.. i really like Windows 8, and Office 2013...

guess i'm the only one, come on guys just embrace change :D

I love change. I loved all the changes through every version of windows and mac. I adapt easily to new environment. I even adapted fairly easily to the AS/400 in school. I seamlessly made sense of every new phone and mobile device I've ever used because they all had an easy to learn single design behind them. Windows 8 is the most frustrating pile of crap I've ever used. I've said it before.. but Windows ME was far superior because for all of it's instability it still had a single easy to use interface and the stability could largely be fixed by disabling System Restore.

Change is good when it's natural and flows. The change in windows 8 is forced and in many ways demented.

It's seldom enough that this happens, but on the rare occasions when we actually share on opinion, I guess it's worth to give you some extra props and a reply.

Thumbs up to you! (Y)

So?

I think there needs to be an option "Windows 8 : Only because i'm in the computer repair business other wise I would be running windows 7"

VM, dual/multi boot, secondary machine, ...

Plenty of ways to get used to 8 and not having to deal with it all the time. :)

Glassed Silver:mac

Windows 8 Pro x64

Honestly, I don't get the hate. I don't see any "missing features or functionality" (Aero Glass aside). I use the desktop interface exclusively; the only time I use the ModernUI is for the weather app I got. The new Start Screen can do everything the old Start menu did and them some.

I used Windows 8 for a month straight after release. Got very irritated and went back to Windows 7. After seeing some reviews of Start8 (and other similar programs), I figured I would give 8 yet another chance. It is definitely more usable now, but I am still not completely happy with it. Too lazy to reformat again right now, but I already prepared an updated Windows 7 ISO for when I may need it. The only reason I use Windows now that I am no longer in school is for gaming.

On my laptop (from which I am typing this now), I am using Arch Linux. It will remain on here for the foreseeable future because I love it and it loves me. We are not ashamed of our love. I will climb the mountain tops and announce it! Sometimes when we get in an argument, I cheat on it with Gentoo. Or if I am just bored. You know how men are, right? At the end of the day though, true love shall overcome all odds.

Good job the thread title is "Your main desktop OS for 2013" and not "Your main desktop OS for 2013 that you absolutely friggen love!!!" ;)

It will probably be Windows 7.

I've got Windows 8, just not tried it yet. Unlike XP which was ageing by the time Windows 7 came out. I don't see the need for Windows 8, other than to experience Metro.

Also i will probably put Ubuntu on my ageing laptop.

Windows 7. hopefully Valve will make gaming worth using linux this next year, so i can jump off the downward spiral that is microsoft and windows.

Good luck with that lol

I could even say Windows 8 was my main OS in 2012. It is sufficient to say that Windows 8 will be my main OS in 2013. I have no qualms with Windows 8. I would like to add though that I'm working diligently this time around in making Ubuntu work for me. Gaming is a real problem for me.

Windows 8 with startisback am willing to give the start screen a chance when more apps are move over to it also windows 8 since smoother and supported my hardware more then windows 7 did.

Windows 8 at the moment, but I don't really use my desktop these days. I'm planning on going back to Windows 7. Windows 8 makes no sense if you don't have a touch screen, it's just plain stupid imo.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
