For MAIN OS I guess it'll be Windows 7, merely because it's installed on my SSD, so I use it more for the speed boost. Have Windows 8 installed on a standard 320 GB HDD. Still like it though. I prefer the dual-boot setup anyway.

At the rate I am going - I am Honestly not sure...

Started out this year with the continued use of OSX, then sold the iMac went to Windows 7, and now am on Windows 8.

While I love the speed that Windows 8 seems to offer (I have seen it slow down it seems more lately), I am still not 100% if I want to stick with that or drop down to 7, or go full time to a Linux Desktop yet to be determined which distro.

Otherwise, if Google OS comes around mainstream (publicly released) next year, may do that?

2013 remains to be seen for me. :)

Windows 8 has most votes on poll. I laugh at all those trolls that say Win 8 is unpopular.

Yes, 80% of them 'fan-boys' here @ Neowin, bound to be ;) What else? :)

Laptop (Used the most): Fedora KDE w dual boot with Win7 (Rarely used)

Desktop (For games): Win7

Work: Fedora on one computer, WinXP on the other (I prefer Fedora lol)

Voted Fedora

Tried Win8, but didn't like it...Gnome 3 did a better job I find with the new Start menu layout (I don't like Gnome either lol)

For now I'm staying with Windows 7. I don't have problems with no start menu in W8 but I fill that it's not polished as it should be. I'm waiting to see what Windows Blue is and then maybe, maybe.

If Microsoft will go to hell in 2013 I'm switching to OpenSuse (or ElementaryOS if they ever release production ready version).

Windows 7 then Linux Mint. i will be avoiding Windows 8. There are several things i don't like about it such as: Forcing me to create a MS account( A hotmail account which i didn't want) and before i could browse the web i was forced to verify myself. No thanks.

Maybe his biggest sin is admitting he uses Win8 lol?

hehe.

windows 8 is so much better then Windows 7 everything from boot time to Games is sooooo soo much better in windows 8

I gave my windows 7 disc and key to a friend never looked back not once ,

I cant run windows 7 now that i know its OLD and outdated and is only going to get a hand full of updates if that anymore.

windows 8 all the way.

99.98% of the other time i use IOS on my Ipad4 with logitech keyboard

Boot time isn't very important. If it performs well, then that beats boot time.

Windows 8 Pro with Media Center will be my default in 2013, ad it's my default now. Faster boot times, better performance, and increased stability are why it booted 7 to VM duties (oddly enough, primarily in Server 2012, which handles the VM chores). Okay - why Server and not 8? Easy to explain - no SLAT support in Intel's Q6600 (8 requires it, Server does not).

Windows 8 atm, only because I can't be bothered to reinstall yet. When I reinstall it will be back to Windows 7

Had reason this morning, Error and reboot out of nowhere. Backing up commence, Install Windows 7 over the weekend.

I dunno. I prefer to not have to modify my operating system to get basic functionality that I want.

I agree with you on that, but strictly comparing Windows 8 Desktop Environment w/Start8 to Windows 7, Windows 8 is better. You can consider all the stuff you don't like extras you can ignore. The cost, right now, isn't bad either.

Kind of hard to ignore the bland look for me.

    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn guns and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.

    • Recycle Bin has been broken for literal YEARS now. The setting to delete files older than 30 days from the bin which is on by default doesn't even work. I have files older than 4 months in it and they are just there still...
