In what appears to be a terrible misfortune of oversight, the South Carolinian newspaper Rock Hill Herald has issued an apology after running a large advertisement for firearm sales alongside its coverage of the Connecticut school shooting in the Saturday edition. While the editor of the newspaper explained that it wasn't intentional on anyone's part as the ad placement had been determined on Thursday morning prior to the tragic development on the next day, he also acknowledged the fault on failing to recognize the mishap before running the paper for delivery on Saturday morning.

This is what happens when you have cutbacks - all the staff (sub-editors etc) who would have made sure that stuff like this wouldn't happen have been made redundant, it's the same reason why there are more spelling/grammar errors and legal issues happening than ever before.

These companies will learn, but they seem determined to learn the hard way :(

USA! USA! USA!

Yell louder, I still hear some criticism...

LALALALALALA~~~

Either way, on a more serious note...

Beside this being a terrible ad placement, I think what's even weirder to me is a gun for Christmas.

I mean, it's still a sensible gift I think for someone who might find good use in it even just for sportive shooting, however I find it slightly ironical in general to say the least.

'merica.

You can't just say 'Murrica. You need to make a show of it

If this offends anyone I'm sorry this wasn't my intention, I truly found it funny.

Gun Sellers have a perfect business model in the USA.

Salesperson: You see that guy over there? He just bought a AR15!. What if he comes to your house to try to assult you? You need to counter him with two AR15's so you can guarantee you have more fire power then him. What do you think god gave you 2 trigger fingers right?

American: You are right, give me 2 for me and 2 for my wife. How many bullets did he buy?

Sales person: 1000 rounds

American: Better give me 2000!

God Bless America's Guns!

Not seeing anything wrong with it here.

Squinch harder.

Article: Shooting at school story

Ad: Buy guns for Christmas! Hooray!

If you don't see why this isn't a bad placement then... idk lol

It might be you're not bothered by it (I'm not either), but I guess both of us are capable of realizing many will get a feeling of rejection by this and hence, the ad might be less positive as the marketing department (or whoever does their marketing) might have wanted it.

Marketing isn't all about what's allowed and what not, obviously this is not breaking any laws, however marketing is targeted to people and their emotions, so the effect of the ads rely heavily on what people accept or don't.

So yeah, this ad does suck at achieving any brownie points.

If you your kids were shot and killed I am sure it would.....

Never ever imply someone's hypocritical before they show they are.

You are not sure. If you think you are, you're possibly misguided by prejudice.

If you're not sure, don't say you are.

On top of that, you can't always cater to everyone's current feelings.

While I do think we should all try to be as humble as possible to each other, respecting others' feelings, I don't believe we should all be all "omg!!!" about whatever might come up unintentionally insensitive.

Neither should we restrict ourselves from freedoms or imply it's the only right thing to do.

Not seeing anything wrong with it here.

There's nothing wrong with it per se, it's just a matter of bad timing :\

I figure most newspapers sell the ad space ahead of time to secure money from advertisers. Would have been nice if the newspaper asked the advertiser if they could postpone the ad temporarily, or relocate it to a different page

All I can say, to your lame attempt at castigation, that it is so pompous as to not elicit any further response from me!

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
