I call B.S if you punch someone the wrong way you can break your hand. We have a highly evolved brain that allow us to make tools to defend ourselves to make up for our lack of bodily tools.

If you have to use a 'tool' / weapon to defend yourself, you either 1. Should be ashamed of yourself, or 2. Are being threatened by someone else using a weapon who should be ashamed of themselves

(Not including going to war, completely different kettle of fish as you have no choice when the enemy is armed to the teeth)

If you're going to fight someone over a stupid argument, do it with your fists, 99% of the time, both of you live to tell the tale, using a weapon is cowardly and retarded

Using a weapon to defend yourself against an armed attack is incredibly smart, fist vs knife? fist vs baseball bat, fist vs gun, fist vs 2x4 not good for the person using only fists. But be my guest if you find yourself up against someone using a weapon use your fist.

Sure they should be ashamed of themselves but are you going to go to them and be like say kind sir, you ought to put down that weapon, you should be ashamed of yourself! Or you going to not give a crap about that stuff and defend yourself with the tool of your choosing.

Being civil has gone out the window when someone attacks you with anything fists included.

?? No, if they had a weapon and were threatening me with it, I would use one too

What I was saying is, weapons (away from wars) are for p*ssys

Well I guess i'm a p*ssy for wanting to even the odds against someone that is using a weapon.

Why are you not reading what I say?

IF SOMEONE IS USING A WEAPON AGAINST ME, ILL USE ONE BACK

BUT THE GUY WHO PULLED THE WEAPON FIRST IS THE P*SSY

If no-one carried a weapon, no-one would get shot or stabbed

Guys that carry obviously do so for one of two reasons, 1. they can't fight, 2. they are enemies with or are likely to be attacked by some other idiot who can't fight either

EDIT - or 3. they have a tiny d*ck and it makes them feel big

People are criticizing this for all the wrong reasons. One speculative study "proves" nothing in science. This study lacks empirical verification. It seems it is just a speculative just-so story,. The sensationalized topic thread title doesn't help either. It goes from a proposed hypothesis in The Journal of Experimental Biology -> The LA Times reports the human hand may have evolved for fighting -> Neowin topic thread title implies its just a fact - the hand evolved for fighting.

Well that's not going to happen, its human nature to use weapons because hmmm lets see the human body has no real defense or offensive weapons. No real teeth to do any damage and the bite force of a human is a joke compared to other animals, no real claws, our finger nails are weak, no real strength, but a highly evolved brain, the best weapon of all, allowing use to make tools to defend ourselves from wild animals and other humans.

A highly evolved brain..... and the people who use it have no need for weapons, because they manage to resolve their differences like adults

I've been in many a fight, won some, lost some, never used a weapon, the last fight I was in consisted of me vs about 5 or 6 youth idiots (hoodies) which after putting one of them to sleep and holding another down in a choke lock, resulted in 2 of them putting me to sleep with a brick - go figure

People who use weapons can't fight

I was well outnumbered and could have picked up anything to defend myself, but I sit here now proud of how I did vs a group of low-lifes who had to put me down with a brick when there was 5 or 6 times more of them than me

Its not about whats right or wrong. Humans used they're brain to make tools in order to kill they're prey. Humans have no real bodily weapons so they had to make them. Imagine a human trying to take down a wild animal with just they're bare hands.. Early man also found out that weapons were good at defending and attacking other humans. The human brain gave the ability to hunt and fight. Not they're hands.

Hunting for food, fine, quickest and most painless way to kill the animal

Using to fight, no, but inevitable it would happen because humans have the need to be in power, to win, if someone beats your ass, you get your mate to beat his ass, and so it goes on until weapons arrive, all because you couldn't do it yourself

Detection,

You're missing his point entirely. You're viewing this subject from your specific modern culture perspective ("only *******/people who cannot fight use weapons blah blah blah"). I get the impression KingCracker is viewing this subject historically ("humans may have an adaptive tendency to use the resources found in their environment to increase their chance of survival. eg. grabbing a rock to bolster an attack or defend from a potential predator or prey because the humans that did this probably increased their chances of survival, which means being alive to make or care for progeny).

Although I disagree with the statement that the human body has no "real offensive weapons". For example, tell that to a human who's jaw was broken by another human's fist or foot in a quarrel and now requires kin to chew their food for them or face starvation and consequently death.

Exactly but compare a humans fist vs pretty much any wild animal of similar size to a human, the human is out matched. While true a broken jaw, nose or any other bone may lead to the death of a early human being, that wasn't always the case because bones have been found of early humans with bones that have healed themselves. Its still the human brain that is the real weapon, as it allows a human to use tools to dispatch his target with a deadly blow.

No, KingCracker is viewing this subject from a very narrow-minded POV because he is a very publicly loud gun owner and uses every opportunity to tell people why it is ok to own guns

Example, the "Show off your workstations" thread, 70% guns, 30% workstation

Excuse? Oh I couldn't get the right angle

Funny, with 1 crop I managed to edit the guns

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of spears and early bows and arrows..Please don't make this into a gun debate.

Erm, we've been talking about guns and knives for the past 20 minutes

Maybe you have but I haven't I mentioned guns once. and that was grouped in with baseball bats,2x4's and knives.I was mentioning and implying early tools humans used. But you insist on trying to make you look like billy bad ass and you're taking on 5 3rd graders lol. Anyway the point is i'm not just talking about guns, i'm talking about any tool a human would use to defend, attack and hunt with because a human body isn't equipped well enough.

what does that have to do with this thread? Seriously.. Have a meaningful discussion will you.

Yea ok, you seem very mature, 3rd graders, no, try 18+, the ones with no brain and lots to say, ...... hold on, how old are you ?

And no I was not insinuating I was a bad ass, I said I got my ass kicked, my point was they used weapons to do it

My age has nothing to do with this. I'm just trying to point out to you that the human brain overcame the short comings of the human body when it comes to attacking/defending/hunting.

You can be macho all you want but historically man has used tools to dispatch animals and humans and not their hands.

Macho? I'm trying to put across my point about weapons, not puff/poof out my chest and sing the Tarzan cry

You won't give you age, ok.

Let me ask you this then, If no-one else in the world owned a gun, or a knife, or any other weapon, would you still keep your guns ?

If yes, why

if no, why

If yes, and because of you owning guns, the rest of your neighbourhood > country > world started keeping them to protect themselves from you, how would you feel ?

And here you go trying to start a gun debate, if you want to debate me do it in the proper thread otherwise, do you or do you not agree that early humans used their brain to create tools to overcome their shortcomings as far as hunting and defense and attacking goes.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
