I have yet to see anyone in the modern era that even came close to the atrocities that Hitler did.

once again, Obama isn't done yet. And nobody is comparing what Hitler did to people and what Obama "did/is doing" to people. They are comparing how Hitler came to power to how Obama is possibly coming to power (like taking away guns, slogans, ect.)

But like I said earlier, if you dig enough you could probably come up with enough similarities to make Bush "come to power" like Hitler...... maybe not though.

Wow oh wow, this might be the worst one yet. I'm not an Obama supporter, and I even think comparing him to Hitler is incredibly laughable. This makes less sense than when people try to label him a Socialist.

two things that always bugged me ....

1 ... if he was a socialist....why would you care, its not a bad thing

2 ... if he was a muslim ... why would you care, its not a bad thing

...

sad to see that this potential big discussion is reduced on the form of a logo/symbol. i absolutely cant stand the tea party and im still convinced that their acting cost mitt the election, but they are right with some things that there are parallels between what hitler did and what obama is doing. some could argue that there have been good aspects in dictatorships, health and education for example, also in eastern germany, but how could you say if it comes in a "nice" form. and if you oppose anything obama does you are a racist immediately.

to make it short: i always prefered individual choice and freedom over some - some dubious - organisations for the mass.

Exactly.

The "Hitlerian comparison" is resisted because of the BAD that happened under his rule. Never mind the good (including a well-designed national highway system - the Autobahnen - that was such a marvel that no less than Dwight David Eisenhower pilfered the idea and moved it lock, stock, and barrel to the United States); the BAD outweighed the good to such a degree that such comparisons are despised even by other dictatorships and autocracies. (Examples - Cuba, the PRC, Syria, etc.)

However, one modern dictator WELCOMED the comparisons to Hitler - fortunately, he is no longer among the living. That dictator is Saddam Hussein.

Would you rather that Barack Obama be compared to Neville Chamberlain or Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore?

This is the type of thread that we say, "brings down the entire site to a joke." We shouldn't even entertain such stupid ideas. This thread should be closed. All it does is facilitate a place for closed minded stupidity to run rampant.

You know how paranoid that sounds?

Coming to power a certain way is not illegal. I suspect if you comb the history books you will find many leaders that came to power that way. It's what they do with that power that's important.

Four years from now we'll be saying the same things about our next leader.

And for the record, I voted for Romney.

First off Obama didn't "come to power" by taking away guns, he hasn't done that at all. Second slogans are a common practice among those striving for the top position. So to say because Hitler also had a slogan and therefore that's somehow a reason to equate similarities to Obama or anyone else for that matter is out right retarded. Another similarity is they both had moms and went to school and ate food.

What is the name of that rule? I am invoking it.

I tried pages ago...

Neowin should use Godwin's law to moderate. That way threads like this would never make it past post 1...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

"Once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress."

Reason being such comparisons are pure hyperbole, and obviously the discussion isn't between reasonable people if such comparisons are being made. This discussion started out at 1 so never should have made it past the first page.

too true but we're a 5000 year old civilization, bound to make a few mistakes over the millennia .... how old is your country again?

To me someone should not throw stones if they can't take it. The thread is not about America it is about a comparison of Obama to Hitler. If you read my original post on this the matter is rubbish and this thread should be closed Shakey suggested.

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for seven more games as discounts continue by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe There's a brand-new update rolling out to Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service, and like every week, that means more games have received support on the platform. This week's drop has additions like Aphelion and Pro Cycling Manager 26 attached to it. Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active too. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Moreover, Nvidia reiterated that support for GOG single sign-in and game library is incoming this summer, joining stores like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Xbox. "Connect supported game store accounts and stream titles with GeForce RTX power. Games that include cloud-save functionality help keep progress intact across devices," added the company. "Start a game on one screen, pick up where playtime left off on another, and spend less time managing installs and storage space." Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Embers of the Uncrowned Demo (New release on Steam, available 13) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 15) Aphelion (Steam) Citizen Sleeper (Epic Game Store, Free from June 18-25) Megastore Simulator (Steam) OPERATOR (Steam) Super Meat Boy 3D (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month, with extra time being purchasable in chunks.

    • Most AI-powered mainframe migration vendors expected to fail by 2030, Gartner warns by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels You may have read that many companies still run code written in ancient programming languages like COBOL and pay a handsome sum for those who can maintain that code. Well, it looks like this area of the tech world could be the scene of an AI bubble. It turns out that there are mainframe exit vendors, helping companies move their legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud environments or servers such as Microsoft Azure and AWS, using generative AI tooling. Unfortunately, 75% of these vendors are now expected to pivot or cease operations as market realities take hold by 2030. Alessandro Galimberti from Gartner said: Some of the companies in the mainframe exit market are IBM, 21CS, BMC, Broadcom, Rocket Software, DXC, GTSG, and Kyndryl. The reasons some of these firms are expected to quit the market are a reset of market expectations and a decline in demand for one-size-fits-all migration solutions. The reset in expectations is likely to be driven by cost overruns and threats to business, and the potential occurrence of critical failures within businesses as a result of bad transition implementations. These insights from Gartner are pretty interesting because it’s a specific area of the market where doubt is being cast on generative AI. Many people have cast doubt on whether AI companies will successfully justify the massive amounts spent on GenAI to date, and this data from Gartner suggests the road could be rocky for GenAI.
