Then where are the reports of windows 8 devices selling out?

this was from November

http://www.forbes.com/sites/benzingainsights/2012/11/27/sony-dell-win-big-with-windows-8-sales/

In conducting a retail survey, Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry found that Acer and Sony produced the ?hottest-selling Windows 8 notebooks.? According to Chowdhry, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Stores had a ?very strong promotion? on the Acer Aspire V5 notebook, which is powered by an Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) Core i5 processor. He estimates that each Microsoft Store had about 500 units. ?[They] were completely sold out within the first 30 minutes,? Chowdhry wrote in a note to investors and reporters. During the promotional period, Microsoft sold the Aspire V5 for $399.

Not to be outdone, some Microsoft Stores also sold out of a $1,500 touch-enabled Ultrabook from Sony. ?Sony Vaio Touch Intel i7 was the fastest selling Windows 8 notebook in the high-end category,? Chowdhry added.

While this may be the year that the desktop PC died, Dell has not given up on the market. And it?s a good thing, too ? if it had, it could not have built the fastest-selling all-in-one Windows 8 desktop. On Black Friday, Dell?s XPS One 27 earned that crown.

Chowdhry said that while he could not get any color on the number of units available, the converged view was that the ?demand was too high? for Dell?s $2,000 machine.

ativ smart pc (tablet ) currently sold out

if I had the time I would go and find out a lot of places where these things are sold out.

I purchased mine simply because it was cheap and I was running out of time but it's probably going to be a while yet before I actually make the switch as I had some bluescreen issues last time I tried it. I still won't be operating without a start screen bypass however.

When did I say the guy was right? Oh wait - I DIDN'T.

First result on google for 'microsoft lying about sales of' http://www.maxconsol...p/t-145756.html

Oh look, lying about sales of 360... Of course they don't mislead their shareholders, just like facebook's initial stock price was completely accurate and not at all overinflated by 20 times what it should have been... completely agree with you man...

I didn't see any proof that they were lying. their numbers were different than NPD. Back then NPD didn't count walmart, costco, sales, online sales and a bunch of other areas of sales. NPD could have been wrong. They've been wrong so many times. Nice try but theres zero proof of what you said being true.

I gave Windows 8 a go on my laptop to trial it used as a workstation OS. The new task manager, the fact that the OS felt a lot smoother and the fact that I can use the Start Screen as a way to pin apps I use semi-frequently, but not frequently enough that I want them on my task bar lead to me upgrading my desktop as well :)

As for Windows 7, Microsoft released sales figures left and right for it, but again, no one complained that they were false. Why are we now doing that to Windows 8? A bit hypocritical, no?

To a lot of people sell = popularity.

With windows 7, it was no question to its popularity, so no one questioned it sells numbers.

But windows 8 isn't as popular as windows 7.

So Microsoft's sells numbers showing it sold 60 million are under question.

For example;

How many were sold directly to customers

How many were sold to oems

How many did Ballmer himself buy? (Joking of course)

These are questions people want to know, because they paint a more actuate picture of windows 8 popularity from Microsoft own mouth.

To me, they have no reason to lie. If they've been lying all this time, wouldn't someone have caught them by now?

Not to take away from this, but I wonder how many 7 licenses were sold during the period 8 has been out. As some of these licenses are OEM, I wonder how many people have replaced 8 with 7.

Must be terrible to have TWO products selling well I guess ;)

Microsoft direct sales to consumers are a tiny fraction of their overall sales, that was true for 7 and is true for 8. It is almost a given that majority are OEM sales.

Do you also regularly question Apple, Google's claims too? When Apple announces XXmillion sales over the weekend, how many were sold to retailers and phone companies? When Google claims XX activations of Android per day - nobody points out that majority of them are cheapo < $200 phones that barely run Android 2.3. I have seen this first hand in India where for every Galaxy S3 or Note I saw a number of Galaxy Ace and r Galaxy Y etc. These phones and their users don't make any money to GOOG but somehow they reflect Google's success.

Yes i got the license for 15$ but iv tested and didnt like. Iv also know many friends and relatives that bought new computers and dont like Windows8 and installed windows7 that had from previous machines.

Its just bad. Once again they do a Beta, then they do a real thing, Millenium, Vista and now Windows8.

Actually there's always someone that brings that up :D but I don't see how that matters. X activations means exactly that, no one's arguing about what device models are being bought.

Considering Google doesn't get any kind of cut from the price of the handset I don't think they care that much if most people are buying mid-low end devices. That people would be buying mid-low end devices anyway, Android or not.

Google is making exactly the same money no matter if you buy a Galaxy SIII or a Galaxy Y. OEMs pay for the license to bundle the Google services, and both high end and low end phones ship with those.

I am pretty sure Google counts on Play revenue for making more money but it doesn't get much from low end phones.

You know when their management team above yours make a poor decision, and then try to justify it and turn it around with silly stats, and then the people below you, who the decision actually affects, start to get on board?

You know that frustration and feeling of anger at the people who follow blindly, not realising that their life has become harder because of stupid decisions?

Thats what I feel when I see appreciation of Windows 8.

We should all be asking MS why they decided to push a poor touch UI (when compared to their own Win Phone UI) onto desktop users that didn't actually need it. Windows is a great OS and shouldn't need third part software to make it usable. MS are huge and employ the best of the best. Im sorry but they should have done much better with such a big release.

Probably not much (although other than high-end games you can still run most apps on those) but still more than they would be making if those had bought a phone with a different OS, obviously.

And then all those users increase the user base of Google's services, which is (I think) the major point of Android.

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 87.5 million units in the third quarter of 2012, a decline of 8.3 percent compared with the third quarter of 2011, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc.

I assume some of those shipped with Windows 8.

40 million sales: But but...most of those can be sitting on shelves or warehouses

........OEMS purchase another 20 mill licenses to meet demand

60 million sales: but but.....(insert desperate argument here)

I love the taste of tears. SO delicious.

In fact, demand was so high, there were shortages and supply problems for hardware. Microsoft could have sold a boatload more of Licenses

Straight from the horses mouth

    • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about. • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
