license [UK] Question about the DVLA

When I was 16 I had a provisional license that the courts took off me after a silly stunt involving alcohol and a motorbike

Anyway, 17 years later and I am thinking about getting myself a full license but not sure if I need to ask for my old provisional back from the DVLA or if I just buy a new one ?

Anyone know ?

You'll get a new one. I believe it is 2 years and your provisional would need renewing anyway.

So i think all you'd need to do is apply for a new one.

Good point, I assume I`ll have to tell someone somewhere that I was banned back then though?

I'm pretty sure your record is clean after that much time. Just phone the DVLA and ask, they're helpful people in my experience.... just not easy to get hold of!

Yea I'd think so too, just wouldn't want to go through all that to gain a license to be stopped one day and told I have been driving illegally the entire time

Your provisional license has long expired.

Fill out a new form for a new license. If there is a question on there about being banned in the past, please state you have been, and complete relevant details.

You should have no issues
