January 31st to begin Windows Phone 7.8 update

It won't be a restore where you can keep apps and data, it will be a clean flash if you want to flash any other ROM from XDA or NaviFirm Plus

If you do, make sure when the PC asks if you want to format the drive on the phone, hit CANCEL or your phone is as good as dead and needs soldering and reflashing from Nokia / Phone repair shops

Thanks for the tip. Keeping data would be a bonus but its nothing critical (though it does still highlight the lack of a 'full' backup mechanism - there is invariably some MMS I've forgotten to save locally.

I think there are backup solutions for unlocked ROMs, and iirc Zune might be able to create a full backup of your current ROM incase you want to roll back but I've never used it so not sure exactly what it backs up

Using SevenEighter, I need to select all languages currently installed on my phone, before continuing.

So I check my phone and can see all the languages, but a few of them are written with foreign characters, unlike the update app, which uses English letters.

Basically, I have no idea which languages to select :/

Don't you just pick the language you have your phone set to? UK

I flashed my phone a different way before this was released so haven't used it yet

How did you update your Focus Baji? I'm feeling impatient for some reason and debating just loading the 'clean' ROM or is the Zune trick still the easier method? (Curious how/if I need to backup the OEM ROM for when ATT gets off their butts)

I used seveneighter as posted in this thread (sorry didn't see this until today)

Kept all of my data through the 4-5 updates I needed. I didn't back up.

Doing that will prevent further updates. :) Although at this point, 7.8 is the last update you will get but if you do that for any pre7.8 update - you won't be able to update to next level.

Who's to say there won't be a 7.8.1?

I need to work this **** out asap

If SevenEighter can update 7.5 > 7.8, then couldn't it also be used for future updates?

If not, chances are there will be new methods by then anyway

Post pics of the languages you are stuck on, maybe someone here will recognise them

It's OK, I was looking in the wrong place for my installed languages

I should have been looking in Settings > Keyboard :woot:

EDIT: ffs, I have 10 more languages installed than the app allows me to choose.

EDIT 2: Just went ahead and selected the lot. Update in progress :)

lol, nice when everything goes smoothly eh

When I updated from 7.5 to the official Mango 7.5 I ended up with my video recorder acting up, stuttery video and most of the time wouldn't save so I had to do a full reset of my phone to fix it, so after that I decided to just do full clean flashes rather than updates that take hours and might not work at the end

This does seem to be taking a while. Backup, reboot, download, reboot, install, reboot, download, reboot......... :/

Fingers crossed I don't have any issues.

I read someone saying, set it going and check back in a couple hours

The last update I got through Zune seemed to take forever

man, I wish that MS would be more transparent on this update... or at least say SOMETHING :/ I have the HTC Trophy on Verizon and have not been able to force the update. I am patiently waiting for HTC to allow the update through, however it's been two weeks and I'm sort of afraid they won't push it out.

I will hopefully be able to upgrade to WP8 soon, but I'd like to have 7.8 for at least a few months first :)

OK, so now Zune is telling me that there is an update available!

Phone says the current OS version is 7.10.8858.136

Firmware revision: 1750.0805.8773.12220

Fingers crossed this doesn't **** **** up :/

Updated a spare 710 I had and I'm pretty disappointed overall - more one step forward and one step back. While I knew going in it was just lipstick the reality of that didn't fully set in until the update was complete and I saw first hand that MS, in typical style, has managed to rub salt in the platform's wound one more time, as they have done countless times before. (Removing the media controls from the lock screen, really?)

Four platforms that I want no part of, whats a consumer to do. I was actually optimistic for a second that the 'other fixes', you know, the ones they asked us to submit, twice, would have been partially included and not just more hyperbole fromt WP dev/management.

Update seems to have gone OK.

Firmware version is now 1750.0823.8858.12460

No change to the OS version

Not sure on the firmware numbering for the 800, my 710 was on 12121 for 7.5, and 12460 is my 7.8 update

HTC stated when I contacted them the following message regarding 7.8 update

Regarding the 7.8 update, at this time, HTC does not have plans to deliver a Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade.

I guess NO update for my HTC Surround Windows Phone 7.5 to 7.8 ever

Carrier: at&T

wait, didn't they already say they're updating at least some models?

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Microsoft adds reusable skills and finance data connectors to Copilot in Excel by Karthik Mudaliar Microsoft is giving Copilot in Excel a collection of new features aimed squarely at finance teams. The update introduces reusable instructions for common tasks, connections to services such as FactSet and Morningstar, and a better way to review what Copilot intends to do before it starts changing a workbook. The most interesting addition is 'Skills' finally coming to Copilot in Excel. Skills let companies teach Copilot how to handle a recurring process, so employees do not need to write the same detailed prompt every month. Users can create skills that can specify the steps Copilot should follow, along with the required layout, formulas, and formatting. Microsoft says users can create their own skills by saving a SKILL.md file in OneDrive. The file is written using Markdown and tells Copilot when and how to perform the task. Once it is available, a user can select the skill in the Copilot pane or mention it in a prompt using the @ symbol. There is also a library of prebuilt finance skills for customers who do not want to create their own. Microsoft plans to let developers distribute additional skills through the Microsoft Marketplace and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, with LSEG, Ramp, Rogo, samaya.ai, Velixo, and Vena among the first partners involved. The company says that it is also expanding the external data that Copilot can access from inside Excel. New connectors are being added for CB Insights, Daloopa, FactSet, Morningstar, PitchBook, and S&P Global data through technology developed by Kensho. There is a catch, however. Accessing these services may require a separate subscription from the relevant data provider, so a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence will not necessarily unlock all of them. FactSet is also only available in preview for now, with general availability planned for July. Microsoft is also trying to make Copilot’s workbook edits easier to inspect. Users can switch to a planning mode that shows which sheets, cell ranges, formulas, and assumptions Copilot intends to work with before it begins making changes. Once the work is complete, the Show Changes pane can distinguish edits made by Copilot from those made by human collaborators. The update continues Microsoft’s push to turn Excel Copilot from a chatbot into an agent that can carry out longer tasks. The company previously added an Agent Mode capable of planning and completing multi-step Excel work. Microsoft also recently acquired financial AI startup Fintool, another indication that finance is becoming a key target for its Excel AI strategy. Prebuilt skills, personalization, workbook rules, external connectors, planning mode, and Copilot attribution in Show Changes are generally available to Microsoft 365 Copilot customers using Excel on the web, Windows, and macOS. Custom skills are initially available to Microsoft 365 Insiders on Windows and Mac starting today. Microsoft plans to make them generally available across Windows, Mac, and the web over the next month. Partner-built skills are expected during the third quarter of the year. Availability may still differ depending on region and licensing.
    • Exactly. They serve different (although related) purposes.
    • Do not enter the code under any circumstances, or you will be sorry. It's definitely and most likely a hacking attempt.  That happened to me a couple of years ago, and I kept receiving those prompts for months. It's simply the attacker trying to get you tired of the constant requests, so you just give up and enter the code, so they can log in to your account.
