Electric to remove the rough part (under the chin) and avoid crapping up the blades, then Mach 3 to have it clean for a day or two. Monday mornings, once a week, because I'm that lazy. It does itch a little, no noticeable redness, quickly goes away. Used to be a way bigger problem with some noname double-edge, had some bad cuts, too.

I use Gilette Fusion ProGlide, the battery-operated one.

Been using it since the orange one (now blue since 2010) in 2005. No complaints yet.

@Op: You should allow multiple multiple options for those of us that use both. I use the Gillette Power Fusion blade razor on Sunday night and touch up using an electric shaver during the week.

My issue with electric is it doesn't get close enough which can mean stubble tugs on my collar which in turns ends up creating a irritable rash. No one else find this?

I always get rashes on my neck from my Gillette vs. my electric shaver.

I have for quite a few years now used Double Edge blades, as I only shave every 2-4 weeks. I have recently got a Gillette Hydro 5 (freebie :D ), and it is brilliant as long as I don't leave it too long to shave. As I shave only every couple of weeks at most, DE blades only cost me about ?2 per year, but give me razor burn.

change blades? get less aggressive shaver?

When using Double Edge, I only use them once - I think it's more to do with the time between shaves.

I also have an electric shaver with moisturiser built in, but that is the same, because I have real bad razor burn and cannot shave too often.

Alternate between DE safety razor and a Fusion; Fusion is for mid week when I'm in a rush to get to work and DE is for weekends or if I shave the night before. DE is far superior shave; it's three days before I need to shave again if done properly, whereas fusion means I need to shave daily.

I tl;dr'ed the thread, but what I've found works for me is the Mach 3 Fusion.

Not a bad razor, but the blades dull very rapidly given my thick facial hair.

I saw a suggestion on TV for maintaining the blades; that is to run the blade backwards along a strip of denim (like jeans, I use a strip from an old pair I ripped. I cut it and sewed it into a clean 8x4 inch strip). It kills the moisturising strip (but careface at that) but the blades last about 10 times as long, even longer if you aren't a Sasquatch like me >.<

It's saved a ****ton of money in blades. Might be of help to some people :)

Hell yeah!

I have just moved to DE shaving, it's great.

I used to shave with a soap and brush and cartridge. I got a fairly good deal on eBay for nearly two years worth of blades for about ?50 which is okay.

But now I have an EJ shaver and using a mix of creams and blades at the moment until I find the one I want. The Taylor's of Old Bond St creams are lovely :D

Also check out http://theshavingroom.co.uk as those guys are great and will help you through everything you need to know.

I love to DE shave and have become quite the fanatical when it comes to shaving and trialing new products.

The Edwin Jagger safety razor mentioned here is a great razor to get started on and will serve you well, it such a pleasure to use that you will continue using it well beyond your beginning phase but eventually you will buy an alternate or two, after all the money you save on overpriced cartridges you can spend on various other items that will better serve you.

Cella make a great shave soap and is widely regarded as one of the best if not the best, Astra blades are very popular at the price point and are very smooth and easy to work with however all this is variable and depends on the individual so I suggest you buy a sample blade pack and see which works best with you.

As time goes by you will refine your technique and process and eventually find your own path as it is very much an art form.

Enjoy your shaving experience and don't give up on it. ;)

    • Steam Next Fest returns with thousands of new demos to try out by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Valve has been routinely kicking off demo festivals on Steam for years now, and the second drop of 2026 has just opened its doors. It's a great opportunity for any PC gamers to find some interesting games before they release. The June edition of Steam Next Fest is a week-long digital festival including gameplay slices from a large number of indie developers, though a few major publishers are involved this time too. Interested players can use the Next Fest hub page's various sorting and filtering options to easily sort through the hordes of demos available. The top buttons offer quick access to separate and important sorting options, including "By Genre, By Theme, By Feature," with each one offering more granular settings when clicked. At the same time, the built-in Steam tags system is also available below every page to discover new games more quickly. As always, logging in will also enable Steam gamers to utilize Valve's recommendation algorithms to find game demos they might like, specifically, depending on their past play and purchase histories. This time there is even a toggle now to swap between getting a random and personalized selection as Valve collects more data on the available demos. The Charts section is where you can find the most popular demos on the platform right now, offering up the most hyped titles in a simple list. Right at the kickoff, Mistfall Hunter, Empulse, Echoes of Aincrad, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Over the Hill, Mortal Shell II, and more are trending. Expect this list to change as the week progresses. This edition of the Steam Next Fest is slated to end on June 22 at 10 AM PT. Valve's latest event is now open, and it can be accessed by going to the dedicated hub page here.
    • I lived and breathed MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger. Going to the mess.be website (still online with no changes since 2013) to download display pictures etc. I was a beta tester for Messenger Plus! and spent quite a lot of time on the MsgPlus! forums (a read-only copy is still online at https://shoutbox.menthix.net) Some old Neowin articles also https://www.neowin.net/news/messenger-plus-350/ good times but how time flies The main developer of Messenger Plus!, Cyril aka. Patchou has released a game https://store.steampowered.com/app/3275440/Pluralys/
    • Well i'll look into a docking station if needed and use that.    Normally i don't usually have all the drives connected at once,  usually once a month to sync the latest files, and then they go back in there storage area
