** Sorry if this was posted before but I did a search before posting and found nothing. **

Just one day after rumors of a 128GB iPad surfaced in the blogosphere, Apple on Tuesday confirmed that it will indeed be offering a new tablet with boosted storage space.

The new, 128GB iPad will be available starting Tuesday, Feb. 5 in black or white for $799 for the Wi-Fi model or $929 for the Wi-Fi plus cellular version. It will be sold via Apple Stores, Apple.com, and authorized re-sellers.

"With more than 120 million iPads sold, it's clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement. "With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs."

The 128GB iPad will hit stores just four days before Microsoft's Surface Pro is released on Feb. 9. The 64GB version of Redmond's tablet will be $899, while the 128GB version will be $999.

In announcing the 128GB iPad, Apple talked up the impact of its tablet on the enterprise market - a space that has largely been dominated by Microsoft.

"Virtually all of the Fortune 500 and over 85 percent of the Global 500 [companies are] currently deploying or testing iPad," Apple said today. "Companies regularly utilizing large amounts of data such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals all benefit from having a greater choice of storage options for iPad."

Apple quoted execs from Autodesk, WaveMachine Labs, and Global Apptitude, all of whom sang the iPad's praises.

Beyond the storage boost, there are no other significant changes to this model. It still boosts a 9.7-inch Retina display, Apple A6X chip, and FaceTime HD camera. It will come equipped with iOS 6.1, which just made its debut yesterday.

The fourth-gen iPad will still be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB flavors in prices ranging from $499 to $829. For more, see PCMag's review of the iPad mini and the fourth-gen iPad.

Personal Note: Apple's iPad prices are getting ridiculous. Did you see the price tag on that new iPad?

Yeah they are pricey. A $1000 for a tablet is a bit ridiculous.

This is going to be their downfall I think. They keep making a new iPad every 6 months now, increase the price but bring nothing new to the table. People are going to eventually get fed up with that. Apple hasn't done anything to impress anyone ever since the old man died.

"They keep making a new iPad every 6 months now" wrong, they just changed the release window to the end of the year instead of March, next iPad will launch next September.

I'm sure they have something up their sleeve for iOS7.

I agree they need to open the ipad up some let it run true OSX and give it USB .

A card reader would be nice. Have you ever took a picture on your camera and wanted to view it/ back it up/post on social media website/ edit it? Photoshop Touch is actually pretty cool.

Nevertheless, they keep increasing the price and not bringing anything new.

Not really increasing the price, just making a new option available. The 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models are still the same price for those that don't think the 128GB option is worth the extra cash.

When else has Apple increased the price on the iPad?

I think that's the path they will eventually take. There is only so much you can do with iOS and I think iOS has reached its maximum level. We haven't seen anything new on it in quite a while so it leads me to believe they are out of ideas. The logical thing for them to do is, like you said, make the iPad be able to use OSX instead of iOS and that will then make it a worthy tablet to get, but in all honestly, paying $799.00 for a tablet with nothing new but more space it's not something many people would want to do right now, considering the competition.

Apple should start giving out free lube at their stores. It is only courteous to do so when they make you take it up the ass at their pricing.

LOL...ROTF...LOL...LOL

You are 100% right, though...LOL

They haven't but they are overpriced with a weird twist, storage price goes down as move up the line.

First 16GB (16>32) is $100

Next 32GB (32>64) is $100

and now

Next 64GB (64>128) is $100

Why must Apple always be so skimpy when it comes to storage or RAM ?

Because they know the same people who bought the previous models will pay a lot of money to get a little more hardware. I still have my original Asus transformer. Works great and never wanted to upgrade past that since it does what I need it to do.

Apple and others were getting their price points around the same with comparable products...now Apple is charging more for theirs...again. Seriously, they need to swap things up since the Surface Pro 128 is around the same price but you can do much much more with it.

Touch transformable tablet/laptop running Windows 8 for around $1000, or the new iPad with more storage and little else for $1000. Hmm hard decision.

*sigh* The 16GB model shouldn't even exist, certainly not at that price point. :/ Why must Apple always be so skimpy when it comes to storage or RAM ?

I agree more storage would be nice, but why does it need more RAM? It's not slow or laggy, so adding more wouldn't improve anything.

The $1k model has cellular, so you can't compare it's price to the Pro which doesn't have it.

Sure I can...they are competing products and competing products are always compared against each other.

You're comparing products used for different things. A tablet with cellular is obviously going to cost more than a tablet without.

Using your comparison, I would pick the iPad all day since you'd have internet access everywhere whereas the Pro does not.

Comparing the non-cellular $800 iPad to the Pro makes more sense and is a bit of a tougher choice.

I dont know about the current model, but on my first generation iPad I sometimes notice the fact that it's RAM constrained to the point that apps are force-quit or Safari has trouble keeping even a single web page in its cache. It would definitely be advantageous for it to have more memory. Admittedly this was less of a deal on prior versions of iOS and, if I remember correctly, this model originally didn't even have support for multitasking, so memory requirements were naturally lower.

Considering not everyone needs internet wherever they are, and a lot do not have unlimited data plans, then the comparison is fine. You can also ad on to the Surface from the phone company and have mobile data wherever you go since the Surface has connectivity that the new iPad does not....like USB. So since the iPad doesnt have USB, then using your guidelines, I still cannot compare them.

Competing products will not always have the same features and will not always be able to do the same thing. Companies produce something that the competition does not have to entice users to buy their products. IF all products must have the same features in order to be compared, then you cannot really compare any products out there since they are all a little different...different hardware/software.

That could also be attributed to a slower CPU. But yeah, iOS has had a lot of junk added over the years which is mostly optimized for the newer processors and memory, whereas the older models are mostly an afterthought.

All I was saying was what is the point of comparing the more expensive cellular model to the Pro, which doesn't have that expensive add-on? Why not compare it to the normal $800 model? It just sounded like you compared those 2 for the sake or price and nothing else. Is there even any proof that a Pro will be able to be used with a cellular provider? I haven't seen anything regarding that, so I'm asking that as a genuine question.

The Pro will be running full Win8 and will have USB access. So I dont see why I couldnt go to Verizon and get a USB adapter to have internet wherever I go. Granted, its a little different...but the outcome is the same.

    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
    • Just another reason (aside from many others) not to use Edge. Firefox 153.0b5 DEx64 has a similar feature added recently in prior builds that I will turn off at some point when I get around to it. It's the new "Something looks suspicious" page that pops up here and there. It cleverly hides itself between web pages that I've actually visited; as a result, you know, of selecting a web page and telling the browser where to go. The interesting thing is that it does not produce these warnings from pages that I, as the only intelligent user of the browser in my system, have ever directed the browser to open! What seems to be happening is that the browser looks at all the goofy ad links on a web page I do actually open and selects one that "looks suspicious" and then creates the "something looks suspicious" web page, which is neatly inserted, as mentioned, between web pages my RB ("real brain") has directed the browser to load in a session. The thing is, I usually look at links I am considering to follow before I ask the browser to load them, and in cases I have noticed where the link does indeed look suspicious, most of the time I will choose to not follow the link at all. Doesn't everyone do this or something similar? I am picky about what I voluntarily load... (I don't like links that start off fine, with a site designaiton that seems normal enough but then is followed by indecipherable alphanumeric strings many, many lines long, etc. I tend to reject those because they look suspicious. They may not be, but I don't care... I'll stay with Firefox, of course, if for no other reason than they usually let you turn off the junk you don't like. And because it isn't Edge... But at some point Microsoft will come to realize that putting your bookmarks on the left side is a Good Thing for a lot of people, just as Microsoft discovered when it had the bright idea of nailing the Windows taskbar to the bottom of the screen, when for decades Microsoft browsers had left that placement up to the user. They have finally reversed the obscenity of that decision. Finally.
    • Google was using the old CATPCHAs data to train their LLMs. What is the say they won't use this camera data of users to train their LLM? these companies need some strict regulations!
    • Depends on what you need. Might be a bit clearer on what you plan to do with it. Sort of a waste if you get the newest and greatest, but don't know how to use it.
