The Woz: We've Fallen Behind in Smartphones

I'm not trying to convince him to like something else, I'm trying to open his blinkered eyes.

Makes me laugh how someone who has all Samsung devices and a username of a Samsung product can lecture someone about how they are being sheep and that how their things are better.

I have no allegiances to OSes or companies.

Oh dear only just noticed his member title as well.

I hear what you're saying but you're not going to convince him. If he wants to think the sun shines out of Samsungs arse then let him.

First, there is no one that needs to open my eyes, because i really opened my eyes 4 years ago when i started to use and learn about Android.

The Exynos CPU isn't only used in Samsung smartphones fyi.

Oh yean, i have a Samsung Ultrabook laptop, Samsung smartphone, Samsung LED-TV, Samsung Hi-FI Surround system and Samsung Microwave. Does that makes you angry because i use very good products that isn't priced extremely high and still gives us tons of good things?

LOL, so you think my title is bad when you have 'UNSTOPPABLE' as title?

You seems to be unstoppable no matter what proofs or facts i give you. Like the thing about running apps in the background in Android.

Where did I say it was bad for everyone? Obviously everything I post here is what ***i*** think!

Your post was pretty generic, like pointed at all of Android, not specifically your use case.

Your post was pretty generic, like pointed at all of Android, not specifically your use case.

Well yeah, but my point is I didn't suggest it's like that for everyone.

I shouldn't have to say "in my opinion..." When everything I post is my opinion; it's kinda redundant.

Android : the only smartphone OS which needs an antivirus to keep users relatively secure. I guess this says it all.

The OS may have some interesting features and possibilities, but the rest is such a mess that it ruins everything :

- Hardware vendor/model specific/carrier specific Android releases, each released when they see fit (if they ever do), with their own specific bugs? Oh c'mon.

- No in-kernel ASLR (and no full ASLR until Jelly-Bean)? oh please.

- Google can't even curate their own app store properly and prevent malware distribution? That one takes the cake.

At work we have both iOS and WP8 phones, they have their own problems (rigidity, lack of real recent innovations and frequent EAS bugs for iOS, immature app store and some lacking features for WP8), but none has as many issues as Android has. Our NOC guys won't allow any Android phones on our systems, and I won't blame them for it.

You only needs an anti-virus if you are doing 2 things.

1. You are paranoia like freaking hell

2. Your downloading pirated apps or just apps from chinese or other downloaders like that.

If you use common sense and download from Play Store, you don't need an anti-virus program to Android at all.

Now to the 3 points you said.

1. Samsung delivers some really good features to their Android devices, like the Smart Stay, Smart Dial, Pop Up Play, S Beam and so on to the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. And to the things about bugs. Tell me one brand that doesn't have bugs?

2. Yeah and?

Every top Android devices is coming with Jelly Bean today. Expecting a dirt cheap Android phone to get the latest and greatest release is not gonna happen.

3. Oh noes, some few malwares can be found in Play Store. How many have you heard about that have got malwares on their Android phones actually?

I can answer you on that. Pretty much zero cases.

Whining about that there might be some risks of getting malware on Android is like crying over that you can get malware or virus on Windows lol.

It's simple. Anyone who cries about this malware hysteria on Android is absolutely not Windows users.

Android : the only smartphone OS which needs an antivirus to keep users relatively secure. I guess this says it all.

I hope you really don't believe that. No one I know uses antivirus on Android and no one has any kind of virus. That's just crap you hear on the Internet from antivirus companies and users of other OSes.

Android : the only smartphone OS which needs an antivirus to keep users relatively secure. I guess this says it all.

I know no one who uses Android that installed an Antivirus program...and I know many. Even my mom doesnt have one installed. They also dont click on random crap and download apps from random places. I also personally have never seen any sign of malware anywhere...just the news reports that freak out people who dont know any better.

I never said it was, but its a Samsung developed CPU.

The fact that you use all Samsung is laughable when telling other people that everything else sucks and Samsung/Android is the best thing on earth, just as bad as the iSheep.

My member title is the DEFAULT member title for someone with this many posts.

I know that apps run in the background but there are such things as process explorers and apps that let you see how much cpu and ram is being used. Apps can't hide from the system using up CPU cycles, if the CPU is spiking while the phone is idle then clearly something is wrong, which it isn't.

The phone just gets hot when you tax the CPU, if you hold it sideways it gets really uncomfortable to hold on the left hand side where the CPU is.

I'm not telling that everything else sucks and Samsung / Android is the best thing on earth. I'm telling that Android smartphones from Samsung, Sony, LG and HTC have some HUUUUGE advantages over iPhones, simply because they use an open OS that is super user friendly and have lots of great features that everybody can use.

Well, it doesn't really matter if you have got your title automaticly when it fits you really well :p .

Yeah, ofc the CPU will get a little hot when you use it a bit hard, that's completely normal. But it doesn't get so hot on my Galaxy Note that i feel uncomfortable by holding it. Sure, i can overclock my CPU in my Galaxy Note up to 1.7 GHz. If i run some heavy tasks then, then the CPU will get pretty hot.

It's not that user friendly, every vendor has its own UI and apps, I'm used to using android and I struggled getting to the launcher settings on an Xperia Z because for some idiotic reason they put it in the pinch to zoom gesture.

When you pick up an IOS device you know the score, every phone and tablet has an identical UI.

Sure Android does some things better and is more open than IOS but I find that IOS has the better user experience.

Can you explain how and in witch way the iOS user experience is better than Android's user experience after watching those videos?

By watching all of those 8 videos, you will get what i'm saying. I don't know about anyone that have said the iOS user experience is better after watching those videos.

EDIT: Added another video called 'Android Fragmentation VS Apple iOS 6 VS Gingerbread' that you should watch to.

Sorry I don't have time to watch all the videos, I watched a good portion of the first one and tried what he did on his phone and my phone behaves the exact same way that IOS did, all it did was highlight the word I pressed on and I am using Jellybean 4.2.1 with the stock browser.

You can't go installing extra apps and then say Android is better than using stock IOS apps.

Yes I will, I have bookmarked them.

I actually replied to that post. Nothing of those 3 points is an advantage in iOS over Android anylonger.

When it''s about simplicity, you should watch this to see that Android is actually better there.

A Galaxy Note beats the iPhone 5 pretty heavily when it comes to battery life.

And Android 4.2.1 is as smooth and maybe smoother in some areas than iOS to.

EDIT: For me it seems like you haven't tried Android after Android 2.1.x by the way you are saying things are.

I know you replied, you just insist on taking this thread round and round in circles, so I thought I would direct you to my old post rather than use more valuable key strokes.

I had a Galaxy S3 running 4.1, which I gave to my fiance?, and I currently have a Nexus 7 running 4.1.1 (I think? It has the latest version of Jelly Bean currently available.)

I still think iOS is superior in those areas.

4.2.1 is the latest Android OS. Not sure if the Nexus 7 got the update yet but I think it did.

I still think iOS is superior in those areas.

It's not. If it is, then explain how and in witch ways iOS is more simplicy when the movie i linked to shows that Android is the OS that is all about simplicity between those 2 OS'es.

Android 4.2.1 may be smoother in some areas while iOS may be smoother in some areas. The differences today are so small that it's not noticable for the average user witch means that they wont favour iOS over Android or Android over iOS when it's about smoothness.

And let me tell you one thing, you are running an old version of Android on your Nexus 7, because one close friend of me have a Nexus 7 with Android 4.2.1. He updated it over-the-air to Android 4.2.1). So check your Nexus 7 for an update there.

Install Android 4.2.1 on your Nexus 7 and come back to me later and tell me if your Nexus 7 is lagging :)

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.
    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
