y not just post a link? i dont wanna install msnmsngr =\

Erm, no link until it's finished because I don't want 100 users complaining about something that I'm trying to fix. And you don't have to have msnmsgr installed. It will just say it's not available and carry on with the proccess.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of computers are you guys running that you need to shut down half of windows to run a game? My 4.77 MHz IBM PC XT S can run Splinter Cell and Half Life 2 at the same time. ;)

Does it matter? Freeing up resources for High-Powered games is a god save!

Right, First beta is here. I accept no responsibility for the harm it may cause to your computer.

All this does is create 2 batch files and a VBS file. One batch file stops the services. The other starts them again. Sorted.

You may see a few errors pop up in the CMD window, but it will NOT matter, because basically you do not have those installed on your computer. The same will happen when you undo the changes. I gave this a slight test and it seemed to have worked.

awesome i hope you make a version that allows explorer.exe leaves in tact because other programs like mirc or ventriollo still needs it :( as well as msn.

keep it up :D

ok more suggestions

add a drop down list to how much ram you can specifiy

and it looks like when i click on "undo conifg" it enables all the services that are defaulted when you install windows... breaking what I tweaked on the services already so what you should do is get the program to scan the pc's services configuration then make a backup

when you click undo it will restore the ones that were running before you start stopping all the services besides ALL the useless services.

make the program look prettier? instead of a cmd crap popping up there's a progess bar telling you what's happening ( disabling x service and so forth ).

keep it up!

eh same thing as tweaking your services. alot of those never need to run at all, and if its an online game your gonna need network connections and maybe some more of those. interesting idea but to me services are set it and forget it.

this is my setup, I dont bother disabling a couple more when I play a game

damn thats looking nice how far have you got with the GUI version? (if your making one).

It would be handy to be able to change somethings i.e. the memory levels freed, or to add a service to stop, or in that case remover one so it runs a little quicker.

it looks fairly basic at the moment, it simply launches a batch file.

it has potential, but this way if system services are stopped usualy, then they get started again on restore. thats not good, it definatly needs to be customisable.

A custom batch file is the only way to go for now.

Start High Priority would be better rite ? No need to go thru killing apps and stripping XP to the core and No reboot needed to get everything back to normal

Hmmm, I haven't studied the XP kernel but I'd imagine that even if a process is running at high priority, some time will be given to other processes running.

Edit : Explorer nor any other apps are being killed on my system. It seems that taskkill isn't a valid command on my system (XP Home)

Right, please not forgetting this is Beta 1. I just wanted to check to see if it was all working a ok. So I need to know that first. I will then add customizable options to what Proccesses you would like to enable and disable. Again this is just Beta 1, a GUI version will be coming soon. This took 5 minutes to make, I just needed to see what bugs where in it so far, not what people want adding :D

Setting the priority level to "high" for the games often causes the system to become unstable, often rendering the shell useless.

Encryption how far have you got? I created a front end to the batch file that I've been using for two years now, but I'm not sure how stable it is hence don't want to make it a public release.

Additionally on my version I have several other features that improve the performance but, it would take too long to document, I'll give you a copy if you want so you can work it out.

I wouldn't mind, that would be a great help.

This program is fantastic!! I play alot of emulator games like Zinc and Mame that require more resources than your conventional game and I have a P4 3.06 GHz PC and games like Streetfighter EX 2 Plus use to hog so much but after using the Cajunfox's game server it performs like i want it to.

I spoke to CajunFox last night on MSN an he said that he will release his private version which is a game server that auto-detects services and memory levels, CPU usage as well as give the game high process priority making gaming and hosting game servers easier. I'll find out when he's gonna release.

    • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
