A Poway student sent a threatening email over the weekend to a Twin Peaks Middle School administrator stating he planned to shoot a teacher and 23 fellow students at the school on Monday morning.

Detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department investigated the alleged shooting threat Saturday and found numerous rifles and handguns in the 12-year-old student's home.

According to officials, the email threat -- which was sent to a school administrator Friday night -- made reference to 3,000 rounds of ammunition as well as numerous firearms in the planned shooting at the Poway middle school.

NBC 7 spoke exclusively with the teacher referenced in the email. She wishes to remain anonymous to protect her safety.

"I kept asking myself, `Why me?' Literally wracking my brain trying to figure out who it is," she said.

Detectives worked with the Poway Unified School District and San Diego's Computer and Technology Crime High-Tech Response Team to identify the source of the email. CATCH is a taskforce of federal, state and local agencies that investigate technology related crimes.

After identifying this particular Twin Peaks Middle School student as the source of the email, detectives served a search warrant at the boy's house and confiscated numerous rifles and handguns, as well as several computers.

On Saturday at around 5:30 p.m., the 7th grade student was taken into custody and admitted to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Detectives believe the boy planned to act alone and say there is no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in making the threats.

The school and law officials are on high-alert.

"This could really happen anytime, anywhere," the Poway teacher threatened in the email told NBC 7.

So...where are his parents? And what did they have to say about this? Were the guns properly stored, secured, and locked down? Did this kid think this email wouldn't have been traced back to him? I mean, I know kids these days think internet anonymity is some sort of "given", but to be that stupid...

You can be arrested at 12 ?

I'd have thought the parents would have been arrested and child put into social services or something

You can be arrested at any age. We've had 13 year old kids, and younger, placed in prison for their crimes. Like the one who killed her sister and was charged as an adult...

Edit: Link corrected.

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for seven more games as discounts continue by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe There's a brand-new update rolling out to Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service, and like every week, that means more games have received support on the platform. This week's drop has additions like Aphelion and Pro Cycling Manager 26 attached to it. Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active too. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Moreover, Nvidia reiterated that support for GOG single sign-in and game library is incoming this summer, joining stores like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Xbox. "Connect supported game store accounts and stream titles with GeForce RTX power. Games that include cloud-save functionality help keep progress intact across devices," added the company. "Start a game on one screen, pick up where playtime left off on another, and spend less time managing installs and storage space." Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Embers of the Uncrowned Demo (New release on Steam, available 13) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 15) Aphelion (Steam) Citizen Sleeper (Epic Game Store, Free from June 18-25) Megastore Simulator (Steam) OPERATOR (Steam) Super Meat Boy 3D (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month, with extra time being purchasable in chunks.
