New ATI Catalyst 3.9 drivers out

Recommended Posts

I just installed them about 10 minutes after I posted this thread. So far so good and no issues that I've seen so far. setup went fine as well.

did you uninstall your old drivers before you installed 3.9? I'm wondering because I did and maybe thats what messed Halo again. Although don't see why it would.

For the people who didn't know it. There is an ATi Catalyst uninstaller supplied by ATi.

You can get it here:

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/ca...alystutils.html

I used it several times and it really does clean EVERYTHING. Which is nice!!

After the reboot it will recognize your videocard as a standard VGA card, so there are no traces of ATi drivers left over.

You can get ready for a nice and fresh install then!

Schmoove thanks for telling about catalyst uninstaller - i had no idea it existed.

tell me you think it clears alll traces of omega drivers too. i guess it does... but wanted to hear someone elses opinion before i run it.

Does anyone know how I might fix this problem between Halo and cat 3.9? When it happened with 3.8 all I had to do was set AF and Smartvision to Application Preference. I tried that with the 3.9s and Halo still freezes right before the menu shows up. Anybody got any advice for me? Thanks!

I have no desire to keep the 3.9's...

im a huge fan of the Desert Combat mod for battlefield 1942 and it ran just fine w/ the 3.8s

after removing the 3.8s per instructions @ driverheaven i installed the 3.9 and now

when in desert combat, my aim sight is now messed up!!

the x and y axis sights are there, but the aim dot is now gone!! makes it a bit harder

to duck and snipe (camping :p ). also i noticed that some of the HUD icons flicker too.

back to 3.8s...

The Omega drivers are 99.99% the same as the default Calatalyst drivers. It only adds a couple of tweaks and support for some mobile videocards.

The extra support for mobile cards is just a matter of modding the INF file of the installer.... when installed these parts won't remain on your harddisk so basicly if Omega only did this the drivers would be 100% the same.

He also adds tweaks, to make these work he has to put them in the same registry branch as ATi places them.

So for short, yes this uninstaller will also uninstall the Omega drivers, it will remove all ATi related files and registry keys.

It will not remove extra junk that Omega puts in (like an overclocker). Personally I don't like Omega's drivers, but everyone has its own opinion that.

I was hoping that the 3.9 drivers would solve all of my Halo problems (game randomly locks up), which re-emerged when I downgraded to Windows 2000. I guess its up to Microsoft and Gearbox to patch their crappy software.

i probably didn't read enough, but i don't see it...

the overclocking via the control panel... how does that work? i don't see it... only for xt's?

and if all you have is a 4x agp slot, what is the best ati card to get? i was thinking about upgrading everything, but that costs to much... $100 for new mobo, $200 for new ram... etc etc. it would be just like building a new pc.

i was thinking 9600 pro w/ 128mb... they're only $150...

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
