Wii U probably sold only 45 000 in januar

We're told by someone with access to the NPD's data that sales for January were "well under" 100,000 units. By our estimates, sales were somewhere between 45,000 and 59,000 units for the month, which is lower than any of the three previous-generation home consoles sold in their worst months, with the possible exception of a recent performance by the original Wii.

Well this explains why Nintendo is losing all the exclusives. And I'd be surprised if we don't see a price cut in the net month or two.. but hey I was crazy earlier to suggest a price cut in the first half of 2013, or even 2013 at all before apparently ;)

Sad, but hardly unexpected news. Can't say my WiiU has gotten very much use lately, I tried playing some Black Ops online in the zombie mode last weekend... yeah, almost impossible to find games, only on one gametype and map could I even find games at all.

I hope nintendo comes out with some real nintendo games for this console soon as I can actually make use of my girlfriends xmas gift to us. It doesn't help that the very few games available on the e-shop over here can only be bought between 23:00-02:00 at night.

I do think that makes it hard for both consumers and developers to take the console seriously. I cant seen it been very appealing for developers only been able to sell content on-line for a couple of hours per day, when most people are sleeping.

I would love to see a new Mario Kart & Smash Brothers game on the Wii-U, however i dont think even that would persuade me to purchase one, not for a long while anyway. Our Wii got very little use in the end, it got used for a couple of months and has been collecting dust since. Sadly i see the same happening with the Wii U if i was to purchase one.

German laws apply for all of Nintendo Europe for some idiotic reason. and according to German law, "violent" content can only be shown between 23:00-02:00. and they need to be shown to be sold. Never mind the fact that applying German laws in other countries is legally questionable in the first place.

It's especially slly to follow that law in all of europe when they are at the same time trying to be taken seriously as a core gamer console. then again, there's like 3 core games, Black Ops, Ninja Gaiden, Assassins Creed and I guess that devil hunter thing game.

Really tempted with to get a Wii U just for the Wind Waker update. If I do though it will be a huge waste of money, something I can't justify right now :(

Give it time, (tho I gave mine to my daughter, and haven't yet got her the wii u,) it'll start picking up once more games become more enjoyable using the U

But I'm confused - I don't recall MS or Sony having this issue, and I don't even recall the Wii having this issue (then again, I don't recall the Wii having PEGI 18 games on WiiWare at all :p).

Will this be the same issue in the UK, then?

I constantly see headlines about how games can't be ported, or features won't work, plus you can't argue its technologically redundant. Rayman was supposed to be an exclusive, not coming out until Sept now due to porting to the 360/PS3...

Of the 3 people I know who preordered/rushed around paying premiums for this console, one pre-orderer returned theirs, the other guys who bought inflated have to take a huge cut now to sell it (~$150 loss). The closest of my buddies said it was the biggest waste of money he remembers impulse splurging on, regrets jumping onto an empty bandwagon so soon, and is getting sick of waiting months for anything to release (exclusives I presume) as he's already beat the 4-5 out for it.

He was also gravely disappointed when he realized these TVii apps like Hulu Plus dont work outside the US

Well after I bought my 3DS then it was price cut, then the XL come out I swore I wouldn't buy a WiiU until we saw the first price cut/first revision.

I don't think I am missing out on much by not owning a WiiU

There's fun to be had, especially if you're in a group. Of course there's fun to be had elsewhere too, but not the same kind.

On topic, I'm strangely unworried about the WiiU's performance, given how much fun I've had with it already. Even it it only manages double what the Gamecube did Nintendo will stay comfortably in the green (this years 3DS releases have pretty much guaranteed them a bucket-full of cash). It's to be expected too, what with the lack of game releases and advertising, but it's obvious they'll pick up.

I guess I will wait until the price comes down to have some of that fun :p
