Ubuntu just announced a tablet OS

I would jump at the chance to get rid of droid for ubuntu on my tablet, droid just doesn't seem to have the backbone to be a solid OS yet

You know what, here is a little story for you.

I use to travel a lot while setting up IT infrastructure in various countries. I bought a Netbook when this became popular; so that I did not have to carry around my Laptop, that I had at the time. I work with Linux day to day at work and I thought how fantastic would it be, if I put Linux on this Netbook. (I would have it all)

The machine became damaged and it was time for an upgrade and I found a Apple iPad on my desk - I was quite flexible to the situation. (Nice! New toy to play with)

I was traveling and a server went down - this is when I noticed how limiting the device was. We have 1 application for tunneling, 1 application for encryption and an application for SSH connectivity.

Of course you need to remember information for all three because if you left anyone of the apps - the application would start in the beginning.

(I thought Netbooks made sense.)

You've explained a scenario where a desktop OS on a dockable tablet makes perfect sense.

FTFY.....

Unbuntu hasn't been all it's cracked up to be for me.... had lots of problems with it.... only luck I have it with... shockingly... is in a hyper-v or vmware vm. It acts better in a VM than actual physical hardware for some strange reason. I installed it on a few client machines and they all had thier own specialness to them.... specially with wireless. :( Fedora and Mint work fine with wireless but Ubuntu seems to be very touchy ;(

Also had lots of problems with the package manager acting like a spazzing sheep lately.

I've only really installed Ubuntu on my Laptop as a main OS, and for some reason trying to install it via wubi on my main PC does nothing, wubi won't even load, and last time I dual booted something disastrous happened, I forget exactly what but it was bad enough to make me remember not to do it again

And dual booting on the laptop with any other OS results in my Windows OS being corrupted, even though it is on a separate partition, I get 1 successful boot to windows every 10 attempts if I'm dual booting, so I use that 1 successful attempt to repair windows and delete the other partition - there is no error, it just cuts out as if I was holding the power button while it booted, then it tries to boot again

Oh wow that's special isn't it???!!! yah think they would have that down pat by now.... Thing is distro makers spend more time arguing rather then innovating, so I'm not suprised in the least about that one....

dual booting linux and windows in that way you presented is like drinking mcdonalds coffee and vodka.... it makes you feel like crap... LOL.

Meh, I can't even trust this company to put out a decent distro. of Linux. Every time I try to invest in Ubuntu as a desktop OS, it just fails miserably. The updates just tend to break more things, and it's generally not worth my time to fix issues. The only flavor *nix I've been very impressed with is at the enterprise level (AIX mainly). I just can't see this gaining mass traction, just with the geek community. Wish Canonical would invest their resources into building a more solid desktop OS.

      I've owned nothing but ATi/AMD GPUs since 2002, after my last nVidia GPU in 2001 (3dfx before that), IIRC, and in all of that time I recall getting this error maybe once, certainly no more than twice. Despite all the scuttlebutt as to how poor AMD drivers are supposed to be that has certainly not been my experience at all... Usually it has been a configuration problem of some kind. Then again, since we're dealing with OS versions that are EOL, it could easily be an OS version discrepancy. It's still weird to think that Win11 has been officially out for more than five years!

      AI will never be the jobs panacea some companies fantasize about today. Oracle is likely using it as an excuse, which we will see a lot of companies doing, I'm certain. They love their "plausible" excuses for their downturns. A couple of weeks ago my wife asked me to call Krogers about some discrepancy in a online grocery order, and it will be the last time either of us does that. I'll just do emails with humans from now on... The AI experience was horrible--the obviously recorded voice started asking a bunch of questions about our orders six months prior(!) and saying, "Is this in reference to your order on January 6, for $****?" You say "No!" and immediately the next question is "Is this in reference to your order on January 29th, for $****?" again, I answered "No!"--and it was incredible--on and on it went like that for fully 20 minutes until we finally got to the present, and only then was I put through to a human with authentic intelligence... I wondered why on Earth the idiot AI didn't start with the most recent orders and work back from there, as it was something anyone with a functioning brain would have done. And why didn't the AI have enough sense to ask me what the problem was in the first place? It didn't take too much deduction to understand that the goal of this "AI" was to cause the person on the phone to hang up in disgust, with no resolution of the problem. That begs another question: why pay for a tool-free problem line if the goal is to avoid solving your customer's problems?... Fortunately, Krogers does have real humans capable of reading an email and understanding it, and if she sees another situation in the future that's route she or I will take. The online grocery delivery service from Krogers has been great, over all, but their AI truly sucks.

      AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.

Less than a week ago, Mozilla fixed crashes on Intel Raptor Lake processors with version 152.0.1. Now, Mozilla has prepared yet another set of fixes that address problems with localization, playback issues of certain MP4 files, and performance issues on website that perform various encryption operations at once. Here is the full changelog: Firefox 152.0.2 is now available for download from Mozilla's FTP. Existing installations will get the update over the next several hours.
