LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -- A Longview woman going through a divorce is accused of starting a fire in the home she still shares with her husband.

Longview police arrested Julie Kell, 42, Friday night.

Officers said she was intoxicated and mad at her husband when she set fire to their garage on Terumi Lane.

Investigators said the suspect sent her husband text messages threatening to start the fire. He drove home and on the way spotted fire trucks heading to his house, according to police.

Officers arrived at around 8:20 p.m. Friday and arrested Kell. She was first taken to the hospital, according to police, because of her level of intoxication.

No one was hurt in the fire and it did not spread to the house. The garage was badly damage, but no cars were inside at the time.

Police said the couple rents the home.

Kell is charged with first-degree arson.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read the line "...the couple rents the home." Only a woman would think burning a home down that belongs to someone else is a good idea when trying to get back at your soon-to-be ex.

I hope he has some divorce paperwork in the court's hands if the laws in WA are anywhere near like they are in mine. Once the paperwork for a divorce starts, all monetary shared (existing) responsibility is frozen in place. All new debt is the responsibility of the party who created it. Meaning, she alone would have to cover the damages.
