How often do you upgrade your Mac?

Still on my mac I got in 2006. When I get the money, I'm thinking about getting a retina macbook.

I'm reiterating my question guys :

How much money have you spent on Macs, minus the price you sold them ? Divide this number by the number of years you have owned Macs.

I want to know if I'm better off upgrading yearly or keeping my Mac until I find it too slow.

I just upgrade mine as and when I feel like it; pretty much the same as PC/Laptop/etc :)

My laptops a little longer, i need to upgrade my macbook ive had it 6 1/2 years :s

I upgraded my Macbook pro only because it was a core 2 duo and I wanted the i7 for music rendering. I plan keeping mine for about 5 years... or should I say my wife says I Should plan on keeping it for five years. lol

From 2009 Mac Pro to 2010 iMac: gained ?200

From 2010 iMac to 2012 iMac: paid ?700

I guess the only answer I can give is never. I have an early 2008 MacBook that's basically retired now. Wish I had the money to spend on a new one but that's not going to happen right now when I could upgrade my desktop for $200.

I went from the 2009 iMac to a 2010MBP to a 2012RMBP.. i'll probably upgrade when they release a significant RMBP, i also just bought a Mac Mini but i don't think i'll upgrade this for many years to come.

It boggles my mind as well, but considering I've gotten a 50% return on all of my old Macs (including one of the old plasti-books with a dead battery), I'm not going to complain.

Year 2009 : Spending ? 2 650 on a Mac Pro.

Year 2010 : Gaining ? 200

Year 2012 : Paying ? 700

From 2009 to 2013, it represents ? 3 150, which means a little less than ? 800 / year spent.

Now, that was expensive. Although if we take a look at only the upgrades once you have your machine, you can spend on average ? 350 / year for new iMacs all the time. Since an iMac is worth ? 1 900, it's like buying one and keeping it for 5.5 years and then throw it away.

I never keep my computers more than 5.5 years. I guess I know what to do...

im still using Macbook pro 15 i bought on 2008 and run great. Also using Mac Pro 1.1 with Samsung SSD, new radeon HD video card and more RAMs upgrade. Only thing Mac Pro 1.1 can't do is to upgrade to Snow Lion. Otherwise, I love mac computer.

I kinda enjoy the game of trying to sell my current Mac for a good price and then being able to buy a new one. It's fun.
