I know many diabetics who do just that. They're fine.

You do know what Insulin is for right and how it works? And saying that diabetics don't eat sugar what so ever is as wrong, they do they just can't eat as much as regular people do. The fact remains, brain can't function properly without any glucose and for regular people sugar is the fastest/easiest way to consume some.

Sugar, like salt and other things, is an essential thing the body needs.

If you have no sugar at all, your brain would slowly shutdown plus you'd lose the ability to move, just like if you cut 100% of salt out your heart would stop beating and you wouldn't have any reflexes. Diabetics have sugar albeit in smaller quantities than non-diabetics.
