Have you ever donated money to Wikipedia?

Then why are you posting in this topic? It clear (even though I wasn't literal in the question) that it's for supporters.

No, it really isn't - it looks more like a general question to the community.

There is nothing within the thread title (at time of writing) which would suggest that there is a target specific audience for the thread.

If you're going to get all childish and mardy over people posting opinions you don't agree with or care to read please just stop posting threads.

Thanks.

Honestly? Nope. I just did a quick search through my internet history - and in the last year, there are 5 Wikipedia pages I've visited.

One page view every 10 weeks on average doesn't really justify a donation IMO :p. I just don't really find it to be a proper source of information - I've gotten used to looking in more reliable places.

No website has ever donated to me, so ...

Why must everything be about money?

How about the fact that such sites "donate" information and increase your knowledge on a subject?

What about Neowin? Surely they've "donated" something back to you, such as entertainment, information, tech news, laughs or just a good way to pass time.

Yeah because it isn't still the 6th most visited website in the world....

So?

Being popular doesn't make it good. The fact that it can be edited by everybody is a double edged sword.

Pretty much EVERY site has a wiki of some form or another anyway.

What more reliable alternatives to Wikipedia are there? I'd like to bookmark them.

For my type of field, peer reviewed articles from journals, books, and such. Never rely on wiki as a source - many teachers/professors won't allow the use of wiki as a source. Also, use multiple sources of information, if possible.

I am surprised. I think that you are just not curious enough about anything or just dont care.

I have donated, and I use wiki at least once a week! I look up information about anything that comes up in my daily life that i do not understand.

I use it a lot for food stuff/plans/animal/medicine/chemicals/authors/movies/games/conditions/brands/fashion/cars/cities/countries/historical figures/ ETC ETC ETC !!!!

ANYTHING that comes up in my outing/reading/internet - i can quickly lookup in wiki. does not matter if it is 100% correct... it usually very helpful to give me an idea about something that otherwise i would have ZERO information about.

Nope, and I never will. It's like the 4th most visited site on the ENTIRE internet. A site that popular that isn't trying to at least breakeven is just ridiculous. Honestly, an unobtrusive ad on the top (think 728x90 banner) or something on the left of the page just below the "Languages" section would be fine.

I have an entire encyclopedia on CD-ROM. It's a 1993 edition. Runs on Windows 3.1 and tells me everything I ever needed to know. Who cares about some dumb wikipedia?

    • You said "not great" but mentioned 2 positive experiences...
    • Finally some article that flips the script on the rage baiting, click baiting and hate mongering by Neowin in recent years. It works for you as a website, but it's completely wrong when considering real usage. Yes, it works just fine if you install it on unsupported machines with Rufus or Ventoy, no downsides.
    • 0 chance of that happening, forget it. Get it installed by some tech guy or do it yourself with the bypasses, that's how MS is being lenient and looking the other way to give users a chance.
    • Ooooooh, now we got the big tech corps fighting
