That desktop tile is really interesting, but it was kinda obvious they'd go that route. Just look at Microsoft Dynamics. They showed this off mid last year IIRC.

That's an app that currently exists in that form. While yes, it's an expected change, it has nothing to do with the Microsoft dynamics app you posted.

Is this Next Windows or for surface or or ?

Blue is Microsoft's next big update for all its operating systems and (supposedly) services. Each will have its own version, such as Windows Blue, Windows Phone Blue, etc. Recently it was rumored their online services would also be part of the refresh, but we haven't seen anything to corroborate that yet. It's more than a service pack but less than Windows 9, basically.

There was a rumor that there would be a Pre-Blue update to all built-in apps, as soon as this month. Still 7 days left...

Bit more than a rumour, the updates are in the pipes just waiting to be sent out via the updating system it looks like

That being said I think the mail and xbox media app would have to have some pretty big changes to get some of you back onside. I am not expecting much, cpl of new things here and there...that being said low expectations, I might come out pleasantly surprised :)

I am not impressed even by 1 bit.

Microsoft held back these options on purpose to reveal slightly tweaked options later. I can bet this update will not be free. It will come at very small premium.

These cosmetic tweaks should have been in Windows 8 since RTM.

They give people reason to "need" to upgrade to another version that will cost them. Most companies do it nowadays though to be honest, doesn't make it right though.

See the Calculate and Alarms apps names? I have same problem on my WP8 phone and i have also polish language (if anyone would wonder about these strange letters). It looks like some problem with coding.

Both apps were released by MS.

Nothing new improvements for PC desktop users? All i see improvements for tablets users and that makes me sad!

The desktop got some really nice improvements with Win8.

Since MS thinks Metro is the future why would they spend more time updating the Desktop.

Although I would love them to update the icons a lot more I don't think we'll see this happening

There's a permanent search box in the upper right corner of the Settings app now.

I thought they were referring to the box on the Start Screen:

But you're right, there seems to be an ugly search box that overlaps some of the text in the PC Settings screen:

I hope that's not permanent, as it seems unnecessary and poorly implemented. That's exactly what the Charm Bar exists for.

Please go to html5test.com and paste your scores here, thanks!

I got 323 and 6 bonus points in a VM in the desktop IE.

I'm pretty sure that's just to block out the user tile - it's not actually a search box.

That's the new permanent search box. I've only found it in the control panel so far.

Depends on the resolution. On my installation at 1080p, the search box doesn't overlap, it sits fine in the top right corner :).

But people use the desktop now.

What can metro apps do better then desktop application for a a kb and mouse user?

I've read around the web about windows blue and i get the impression that Microsoft is just re-breading service packs.

Which is why its free for windows 8 users and would cost (whatever windows 8 cost win it comes out)for everyone else.

    • Thanks Microsoft but no, I find both iterations of Outlook terrible nowadays and switched back to Thunderbird at home.
    • Happens to the best of us, bro. 😛
    • Thanks to some of the other recent Windows improvements, I'm optimistic about this one. My quick wishlist would be: perf like the older menu, merge both menus or at the very least, the older menu should be a flyout, not a simulated click to the old menu, and lastly, a customization window to let users move items from one menu to another, so I could bring Send To back to the main menu, and the OneDrive settings to the older.
    • This Gigabyte AMD RX 9070 XT is very good deal despite the launch of 9070 GRE by Sayan Sen Recently we reviewed AMD's latest 1440p gaming card, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB, for $549. The card is in stock too at that price, though if you want significantly better performance and don't mind spending a bit more, the Gigabyte Gaming model of RX 9070 XT is currently on sale for just $650 (purchase link under the specs table down below). The card employs Gigabyte's WINDFORCE cooling system which combines multiple design elements such as alternate-spinning Hawk fans, a vapor chamber, and composite heat pipes to manage heat dissipation. The Server-grade Thermal conductive gel further helps in this department. The inclusion of a semi-passive cooling mode allows the fans to remain inactive under low workloads, which allows for reduced noise operation during lighter usage. There is dual BIOS switch that allows toggling between performance and silent modes. The technical specifications of the Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT GAMING OC 16G are given in the table below: Specification Value Core Clock Boost Clock: up to 3060 MHz Game Clock: up to 2520 MHz Stream Processors 4096 Memory Clock 20 Gbps Memory Size 16GB Memory Type GDDR6 Memory Bus 256-bit Card Bus Interface PCI Express 5.0 Maximum Resolution 7680 × 4320 Multi-View Support 4 displays Card Dimensions L=288 mm, W=132 mm, H=56 mm Recommended Power Supply 750W Power Connectors 3 × 8-pin Video Outputs 2 × DisplayPort 2.1a 2 × HDMI 2.1b Get it at the link below: GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16GB Graphics Card, GV-R9070XTGAMING OC: $649.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $740) This Amazon deal is US-specific and not available in other regions unless specified.
