... Will be the ability to sort apps by name, installation date and most importantly, most used.

This means that my most frequently used apps will always be readily accessible.

I can't remember if this was the case with the start menu, but that's not the point. I use Windows 8 now.

Also, displaying search queries inside the Charms menu instead of a different screen altogether is a nice improvement.

All of the other improvements are icing on the cake.

The UI of the leaked build also seems to be snappier than my regular Windows 8 Pro.

Yes, Window 7, and for that matter XP and Vista show recently/commonly used apps in the start menu upon click. In order of use but you can also pin commonly used to the top.

I think the best potential feature is boot right to desktop.

I agree. Boot to desktop would be nice.

If you search the web, you will find that there are ways to already do this, so having this feature really isn't that important anymore for users (as you can already do it)

That will only happen if Microsoft listen to the users and make the changes that people are asking for.

yeah I've been wanting a most used feature in the start screen. There was one in the old start menu which is how I used it. Only had IE and Chrome pinned and the rest was most recently used programs

And the most asked for feature (that doesn't already exist in Windows 7, which hasn't gone away) is what?

Yes - that's a serious question.

Could it be that the most wanted feature from a BUYER'S standpoint is one that Microsoft can't give them - lower hardware prices?

It isn't that Windows 8 upgrades aren't selling - all the numbers on the upgrade run rate for 8 are higher than the same numbers were for 7.

What isn't selling all that much is new PC hardware; however, what OS is on it hasn't mattered.

What IS selling are tablets and slates, which cost less - and often MUCH less - than full desktop PCs.

Those griping about 8 are apparently soundly in the same group of folks that would rather do nothing, even though most of them are aware that doing nothing WILL lead to obsolescence; they don't care about that.

I don't know as I've stopped paying attention to Windows 8 really. My comment wasn't meant one way or the other, it was just pointing out the logic that if the people complaining don't get what they want then they will continue to complain.

I don't like it when I plug in my phone and the app for the phone opens up. Just because I plug in my phone does not mean I want to use the phone app. This is a pain when I am developing and the stupid app takes me away from what I am doing.

It would be nice to get rid of apps from the history of my apps. If I try out an app and don't care for it and then remove it, it still shows up in the list of your apps. I don't want it or to see it ever again.

Auto update downloads the updates and waits to install it and wants to reboot but I might not want to reboot. After a while it forces a reboot even if you do not want to reboot yet.

Sometimes in the morning I find my computer running. I assume it is because Windows check for updates and failed to go back to sleep.

Most of the people complaining are the same ones who complained about Windows Vista without having actually used it, they just believed all the FUD Apple spread in their awful commercials.

      Apple raises MacBook and iPad prices as memory costs surge by Karthik Mudaliar Apple has raised the U.S. prices of several MacBook and iPad models, including the MacBook Neo, which it launched for $599 less than four months ago. The company’s cheapest laptop now starts at $699, while some MacBook Pro configurations have increased by $300. The changes affect the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. Apple has not changed the hardware or storage included with these models, so customers are simply paying more for the same configurations. The MacBook Neo increase will probably attract the most attention. Apple introduced the laptop in March for $599, pitching it as a more affordable Mac for students and buyers considering Windows laptops or Chromebooks. It uses an A18 Pro processor and originally undercut Dell’s new $699 XPS 13 by $100. Following the increase, the two laptops now have the same starting price. The M5 MacBook Air has also lost the price Apple promoted when it launched in March. The 13-inch model arrived with 512GB of storage for $1,099, while Apple’s store now lists the MacBook Air range as starting at $1,299. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip and 1TB of storage has gone from $1,699 to $1,999. Apple has made similar changes to its iPads. The recently released M4 iPad Air, which launched at the same $599 starting price as its predecessor, now starts at $749 for the 11-inch version. The 13-inch version has risen from $799 to $949. The iPad Pro increases are larger in dollar terms. Apple’s 11-inch M5 iPad Pro now starts at $1,199, up from $999, while the 13-inch version has moved from $1,299 to $1,499. Both base models still include 256GB of storage. Apple blamed the increases on the rapidly rising cost of DRAM and NAND flash, which provide system memory and device storage. The company told Reuters that it had tried to shield customers from the increases but could no longer absorb them. “We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly,” Apple said. Tim Cook had already warned that price increases were coming. Cook said Apple’s existing component inventory had softened the immediate impact, but that higher memory costs would increasingly affect the company after the June quarter. Much of the pressure comes from the construction of AI data centers. Memory manufacturers are directing more production toward high-margin server products, leaving PC, tablet, and smartphone makers competing for the remaining supply. Apple has not said whether the new prices are temporary or whether further increases are planned. For now, the changes show that even Apple’s purchasing power has not been enough to keep the AI-driven memory shortage away from consumer devices.

      This is a none story - these low volume Chinese models will always get new experimental features first because Apple and Samsung can't produce them in huge volume to meet demand.
