I just thought that many of these silent installs make log files, if these could be dumped in a folder somewhere on the installed machine or even better if they could be copied into on large logfile dumped on the desktop, that would be cool and would make it much eaiser check if all went okay.

Just an idea, but some sort of logfile would be nice. :-)

PS: this might be usefull; http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/ms...ine_options.asp

Thanks for the link! And the Dec Update will have a logfile (the Nov. Update has one as well). :)

i think i suggested startup monitor already, its from same guy as startup control panel.. http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml its a must.. it just saved me today actually ... also hijackthis is a nice program.. lets me get rid of ie active x controllers that install without me knowing. http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

I just thought of another tweak that would be a nice option to add. If you're sick of a single Windows Explorer window crashing and then bringing down the rest of your OS with it, follow this tip: Open My Computer, go to Tools, then Folder Options. Click on the View tab, then scroll down to "Launch folder windows in a seperate process" and enable this option. Just remember that you'll have to reboot your machine for this tip to take effect.

If it were possible to add this as a tweak option on the AutoPatcher CD, that would rock!

I also like the idea of the Google toolbar...

at least as an option.

Hmmm... that's a good one... I just need to find it in "Reg Tweak" format. lol

Add encryt to right click.... instead of having to go into properties.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

>new value

>EncryptionContextMenu

>Data Type dropdown > Regword > 1

And found this one, boot optimization:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction

>change bootoptimizefunction key to Y

Hi

How about a option just to install the new patches and hotfixes which come out since last time we ran autopatcher

Great Program Guys

Smartie91

If you already ran the November Update, the Dec Update will detect what you have installed previously and ask if you'd like to uncheck those. :)

@Intelligen - Nice! (Y)

With regard to the services, each one could be disabled or enabled using a simple reg patch, combined all the patches should be less than 100 KB. The key to implementing this would be a good explanation of what each service does and a recommendation as to weather it can be disabled/enabled.

There are many sites with guides to windows services and even one that will generate the reg patches: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/customREG.htm

With regard to belarc I don't really think it is needed, it might be simpler just to have notepad open the log file once the patcher is done.

Dude! Awesome site!! If I have time I'll use these to make a "Services" section in the AutoPatcher... if not, then it will be implemented in the Jan 2004 update. :D

Ya i'd love to see what was installed and stuff in a nice line by line layout!

And fishfun you didn't say anything about mine? They SMALL tweaks if anything and be left unchecked by default.

BTW: when is decemeber one coming out, your patcher is becoming outdated in a way..... know when i install then run autopatcher but still some critical ones for IE sp1 or something to install....

So whats the predicted release date on this humbugger

I really love this patch just used it for the 10th time (I think) and it does save about an hour of getting XP ready to use.

Any decision of the Catfood fortune cookie program as a bonus option? I know it is very trvial but its only 847KB.

Glad you like it... still thinkin' about the catfood one... I may do it since it's so small, we'll see. :)

@Intelligen - It will be out around the 15th. Microsoft will be releasin' this months updates on about the 9th... so I want to include them. :) And yes, I like your tweaks. (Y)

how about adding a shortcut to the system device manager on the start menu? can this be done?

the command I have is:

%windir%\System32\mmc.exe %systemroot%\system32\devmgmt.msc

everytime i install windows I add that to my start menu, it makes it easier to access device properties and such.

I used Autopatcher for the first time today, good work!! saves the hassle of downloading every update. Keep up the great work! (Y)

    • We do it all the time on our IT Service desk mailbox to add a reference, in the subject line, once it's been logged and then it's filed into the appropriate sub-folder. Other companies probably do the same thing.
    • "No. The "New Outlook for Windows" does not support non-cloud mailboxes (such as on-premises Exchange servers). Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
