TACOMA, Wash. (AP) ? Police in Tacoma could soon be in real trouble over pot.

The department could be found in contempt if they continue to refuse to return a small amount of marijuana seized from a man after a traffic stop. Municipal Court Judge Jack Emery repeated an order to police Thursday to return the drug to Joseph L. Robertson within seven days or they could be found in contempt.

"Appeal or comply," Emery told assistant city attorney John Walker. "Or next week, show up, and I would advise you to bring counsel."

The judge first ordered police to return the drug on Feb. 28, but they have refused, The News Tribune reported Friday (http://bit.ly/10hwiD9 ).

It was seized in May of last year when an officer pulled over the Tacoma man for speeding. He was cited for driving without a license and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Prosecutors dismissed the drug charge in December, after state voters decided to legalize small amounts of the drug.

Robertson then asked for his pot back, and provided proof of medical marijuana authorization. The city refused, which led to Emery's Feb. 28 order. If the matter is not settled by the May 2 hearing, it could go to higher courts.

The pot is now in the possession of the Pierce County sheriff's department, which operates the property room for seized evidence. Deputies won't give it to Robertson.

"It's Tacoma's case," said sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer. "If they want it, they can come and get it."

Although the judge said he thinks "there's contemptuous behavior here," Emery added that the case was "a quagmire," due to the conflicting provisions of state and federal law.

traffic stop

What is this? How could he stop traffic? A strange term to describe a random pullover. Traffic means carss and vehicles on the road in transist. so to say "traffic stop" would mean to stop all those cars on the road.

You americans always have things to laugh about and confusions.

each car is a part of traffic, a cop pulling over a car is stopping part of that traffic, therefore it is a traffic stop due to the fact the police will not allow you to become part of the main flow of traffic until released, therefore your traffic is stopped..... remember traffic isn't a singleton, traffic is an aggregation of items moving in "traffic" to create a quantity of traffic.... each individual car is a part of traffic and a traffic stop doesn't mean traffic levels come to a 100% complete stop

Leave it to Neowin posters to dissect and analyze two words (traffic stop) and find a way to coin it as political.

But if your the only car on the road it does :D

Politics in action dont ya love America

    • Huh? I have an Aeron Remastered and the backrest cannot go up or down (only the lumbar is adjustable). Yes, the Doro C300 Pro V2's backrest can be locked, but the locking mechanism is so weak that when you recline and lean back the backrest moves with your body. I think the whole purpose of this chair is that all of the moving parts (except for the rocking, which can be locked in place) are supposed to move with your body, as you shift your weight, that's why I couldn't get used to it. Some people might like it though. Its redeeming factor is the price, I mean it costs like a quarter of what a new Herman MIller (Aeron) costs.
    • Well done Massie. This is how to treat the Fox News filth.
    • I notice how you dodged the questions I had about the racism shown by ignorant, gullible, cowardly people when the Poles, like your partner, were the immigrants. Ahem. I wonder how you'd feel if native born Brits suddenly treated you as "dirty crooked immigrant" for being half Trump-American? If they ordered you to leave and "go back to your corrupt country" (on the other side of the Atlantic), would you go? The truth is based on facts as supported by evidence. As requested in your previous posts, I have used the facts in your own post to show everyone the truth.
    • US citizens are paying to their government, who could use that to fund healthcare and tuition and relieve the costs of these for citizens instead of making tax breaks that overwhelmingly favor the rich. I'm not saying that tariffs are the correct solution, but what else would they be used for? What else could Trump have in mind for wanting them, if he hasn't figured out that labor costs are higher in the US?
