Arachno 1D
YouTube channels at $1.99 per month could launch this week 50 channels tapped for content-for-pay trial By Neil McAllister in San Francisco Video streaming giant YouTube is nearly ready to begin offering some of its customers a subscription pricing model for their content channels, according to reports. Citing inside sources, the Financial Times claims the Google-owned service has been working on getting its subscription paywall up and running for months, and that it could start offering it to select content creators as early as this week. The initial trial of the plan will involve up to 50 YouTube channels, sources say, with pricing for each channel beginning at $1.99 per month. Elessar
If it's full episodes/movies from providers such as HBO and other major networks, then count me in :) ThatOne6uy 1 Share

Yorak
I can almost guarantee that I will have no interest in the 50 channels that are charging. Not because I mind the fee, but because I am not interested in very mainstream channels. Never have been. Ray William Who? The Young Who? Those channels in my opinion are a waste of time. LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted May 8, 2013 Veteran Share Posted May 8, 2013 I think this is a great thing, There are a lot of great content providers and original shows on Youtube and this gives them a better way of monetizing on that other than using the standard advertisement method on youtube. Especially being that currently due to ad blocking there are a lot of great people that are suffering and unable to provide as much content as they would like due to revenue streams that simply do not work. torrentthief
I wonder what will stop people using youtube video downloaders and then uploading those videos to youtube so people can watch for free.

cropcircles
These channels certainly won't be what you get on Direct TV, Dish or Cox in the US. Probably shows like http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/ whatever else they offer http://www.youtube.com/user/YouTubeShowsUS I guess they'd start asking money to watch Dr. Who yikes ! Surprised they've waited this long but don't see why they wouldn't get into the streaming like Hulu and Crackle have done.
SiCKX
I only check 2 channels about once every 3 weeks or so. http://www.youtube.com/user/cubex55 http://www.youtube.com/user/OwnagePranks First for my olda$$ gameplay, second for lulz.
BillyJack
I don't think the price is that bad. I watch so little TV that if they had a TV show I want to watch then a season would be about eight dollars. That is still less then paying for Netflix at ten dollars a month. The price really depends on how much you will watch.
LUTZIFER
I use YouTube on a regular basis, but just for downloading music videos. Have never subscribed to a channel, nor even go to any, other than the odd one by the music artists themselves. I wouldn't pay unless it was 100% worth it. User6060
a lot of content creators have paid subscription options on their private website but also have free clips up on youtube....now they can leverage their youtube audience and convert some free users to paid full access users without turning them away from the broad support youtube offers on all computers, phones, consoles, tvs' im in. ill prob not subscribe to anything unless i was already watching that channel
bradsday
If it is a Netflix, iTunes, or HULU competitor with movie and television show rentals, then this sounds like a great move for Google. If it is merely an attempt to cash in on the content that is already provided via existing YouTube channels, then I am at a loss. I guess we just have to wait to see what is eventually offered.
