Twitter's UK arm, which includes TweetDeck Ltd, has been dissolved by the business regulator over repeated failure to file accounts.

TweetDeck Ltd, which was bought by the California-based social media giant in 2011, was officially struck off the register by Companies House this morning.

The action comes after the wholly-owned British subsidiaries, TweetDeck and Twitter UK Ltd, failed to file accounts for 2011.

If you're a TweetDeck user, however, don't worry - this isn't the end! According to a Twitter spokesperson: "TweetDeck the product continues to thrive as part of Twitter, but the old TweetDeck company has been dormant for some time, with no outstanding liabilities; hence our agreement with the move to dissolve it."

...so basically, TweetDeck continues to exist, but Twitter have moved it's operations out of the UK so that they don't have to pay any tax(!)

And that problem with that is? If they aren't actually employing anybody there or providing any services from their UK subsidiary, why should they keep running it or paying taxes?

They DO employ people in the UK!

The address of their London base is (or at least was until this morning!):

TWEETDECK LIMITED

SECOND FLOOR CARDIFF HOUSE

TILLING ROAD

LONDON

NW2 1LJ

If you employ people and have a base/office in a country, then you should be paying tax in that country!!

But they DON'T! They were wound down, but simply still existed as an entity. All this is saying is "Twitter failed to notify Companies House that TweetDeck Limited was no longer operating. As such, Companies House has closed the company for them"

But didn't they employ people in the UK in 2011? (even if now in 2013 they don't) - 2011 is the year in question, and the year for which no accounts were filed (and therefore no tax paid)!

    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
