Copy, a new file syncing and sharing service.

Question

I just heard of a new service to sync files online like Dropbox of SkyDrive, and I couldn't find any post here naming it hence this thread. It may not be interesting to everybody but some may wish to give it a try, currently there are clients for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.

Usual lines from their website:

Copy is the easiest way to store, protect and share amazing things. It keeps your computers in sync and your files available from anywhere, even on your mobile devices. With Copy, you can also easily share files with anyone publicly or privately. Copy for companies extends the cloud storage and sharing benefits into corporate environments with user and group management and added control of proprietary company data.

From what I can tell the Windows client is written in C++ (GUI with Qt), the free version of the service gives 5GB and since they're starting for a limited time they're offering 5GB extra per person you invite (for both).

I don't seem to be able to edit the original post...

Instead of 5GB for free users they've upped that limit so now the base storage is 15GB, plus 5GB for (and to) each person you invite.

Excerpt from a press release:

Inspired by this week?s news that Google is unifying storage across its products, Barracuda Networks announced a bold new program increasing the amount of free cloud storage for its own Copy users from 5GB to 15GB. Copy is a new online file syncing, sharing and storage service built on the secure Barracuda Cloud. Since its public debut less than 90 days ago, Copy already is approaching half a million users worldwide.

Prices for the paid tiers as of now are:

$9.99/month or $99/year -> 250GB

$14.99/month or $149/year -> 500GB

Wow, 5GB per referral? Up to how many?

No idea... Right now I'm at 30GB after they upped the base for free users, they do give 2GB extra if you tweet about it but I'm not in Twitter. In the press release they wrote about some users having 10s of TB, so I'd say that if there's a limit it's pretty high. I'm wary of these things that appear to be too good to be true, but nonetheless I'm giving the service a try. In any case, for now I'm not considering to enter a pro tier just yet, I'd like to see how it ends up being in the upcoming months; specially since competing against the well established Dropbox is pretty complicated.

I think their offering seems pretty good, but I'd like to see things like user held encryption keys or the ability to sync more then just the contents of the "Copy" folder for example; if I had the time I'd write something to fully suit my needs, but life seems to get busier by the day haha.

Edit: Can't install due to a dll error. Great work, Barracuda

No problem here for now, but I don't understand how people release their software (specially wanting to position themselves in a market) without ensuring a pleasuring experience. I have it installed in 2 64-bit Windows 7 machines.

I have 3 different ones that start when my machine boots. Different friends prefer different ones. We dont need anymore!

Yeah... I too have 3 with this one, Dropbox and SkyDrive being the other too to collaborate with different people (Drive too, but I don't have the client installed); it would be awesome it there was a service that allowed seamless interaction with the most used ones, that would be a win.

Copy is everything Dropbox is except they are way more generous with the initial free space (15gb vs 2gb) and UI is easier to navigate. What puts Copy, Dropbox, and Google Drive above all other free cloud services is they have no file size restrictions like Box.net or any other cloud service that readily offers you 50gb for free, but is impossible to use it for anything useful due to the limit.

If anyone wants a referral for an extra 5gb (gives you a total of 20gb to start off with), pm me. Will be happy to dole them out for mutual benefit.

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
