Well, since they went ahead and talked about this game now that means it's not going to come up at E3 either. Makes sense now though since this isn't for the Xbox at all.

Because it's a WinRT aka, metro game. Also why it's coming to WP8 as well since they share much of the same APIs already.

We all know why it's coming to windows 8 only. It's for the same reason Halo 2 PC was Windows Vista only. Saying otherwise is being totally delusional.

Oh pardon my ignorance, a "mini-game" then

Interesting. I'd much rather they try out new stuff like this than another reboot/spin off like i was expecting.

Looks like it could be a fun little time waster while on my phone.

Heres the trailer:

Oh and I think they need to sort out the store pricing. Hopefully this is coming with 8.1 but I am not going to buy the exact same game on different platforms. Galatic Reign was cheaper on Windows 8 store, yet they expect me to pay again, and in fact more for the same game on my mobile. Sort it out.

I'm guessing this is an RTS. ..again? It should be very interesting though.

edit: Nvm, it's some sort of shooter. Pretty cool.

Title wrong on two counts. It is exclusive to Windows 8 PCs not just PCs and also Windows Phone 8.

Because they wanted to bring it to mobile they specifically went with the top down style instead of a FPS. This type of jump in and play arcade shooter fits mobile better.

Originally Mac only exclusive yes, but it was at least released on the PC as well as Halo 2 then it stopped, If Halo 3 was released on the PC it would have blown sales away.

It's a Win8/WP8 title. I was hoping it would be an actual PC game like StarCraft 2. Oh well, I guess I'll never experience Halo on PC. I'm not the only one that reminisces about the Halo: CE days.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 arrives on PS5 on January 28
      by Namerah Saud Fatmi

Image via PlayStation Blog Free-to-play title Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 first came out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 platform back in October 2019. Developed and published by B.B. Studio and Bandai Namco, the 6v6 online shooting game will soon be making its way to the PlayStation 5.

Today, Sony took to the PlayStation blog to announce the PS5 launch date for the online multiplayer Mobile Suit Gundam title. The video game will release on January 28, 2021, on Sony's next-gen console. This variant of Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 has been optimised for the PlayStation 5.

Players will be able to experience the gameplay with the DualSense controller's haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and audio features integrated into the game. The triggers will replicate the feeling of firing bullets, players will be able to hear gunshots through the controller, and will also be able to feel the impact of bullets due to haptic feedback.

The PlayStation 5 release will have faster load times, better framerate and the ability to transfer saved game data from the PS4 over to the PS5. It will also feature a brand new map called the Military Base and new voiceovers in English for the characters Neidhardt, Tenda and Katarina.

Stadia Pro adds Journey to the Savage Planet and Enter the Gungeon in February
      by João Carrasqueira

February is just around the corner, and as such, Google has revealed the new lineup of titles that's being added to the Stadia Pro subscription next month. As usual, these games can be claimed at no additional cost, and you can play them as long as you keep your subscription, even after they're no longer available to claim for other users.

In February, three new games are joining the roster. Perhaps the most notable of them is Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month Edition. It's notable because this is an expanded version of the game that was originally released on other platforms, and the developer, Typhoon Studios, was acquired by Google's Stadia Games and Entertainment division back in 2019. Presumably, this edition will remain exclusive to Google's platform. You can watch the launch trailer below.

Aside from that, critically-acclaimed procedurally-generated shooter Enter the Gungeon is also being added, an indie title published by Devolver Digital. Lastly, there's Square Enix's Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, developed by Crystal Dynamics.

These games will be available on February 1, but before that, you may want to claim the games that are leaving the service at the end of January. Right now, you can still get The Gardens Between, Hello Neighbor: Hide & Seek, HITMAN 2, Sniper Elite 4, Into the Breach, and Panzer Dragoon Remake at no additional cost, but only until January 31. Again, if you claim them now, you can play them as long as you have Stadia Pro.

There are also some new games available to buy this week on Stadia, including Phoenix Point (January 26), Madden NFL 21 (January 28), TOHU (January 28), and Gods Will Fall (January 29). Madden NFL 21 will also be free to play this weekend if you have Stadia Pro.

Kublai Khan heads to Civilization VI as a leader for both China and Mongolia
      by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe

Following the upcoming Vietnam civilization rundown, Firaxis today turned its attention to the other half of the upcoming Civilization VI New Frontier Pass DLC, the new leader. Kublai Khan is coming to the 4X title as an alternate leader, but unlike most others, this one can be used across two civilizations: China and Mongolia.

The last time Firaxis released a double civilization leader was in February 2019, where Eleanor landed to lead both England and France. Similar to that, Kublai Khan only undergoes some cosmetic changes when being utilized by either side, as his unique ability remains the same.

Named Gerege, this ability provides China or Mongolian players an additional Economic Policy slot for any government they choose. Moreover, a random Eureka and Inspiration is granted whenever a Trading Post gets established in another civilization's city for the first time.

The existing unique abilities of the two civilizations complement Kublai Khan's ability in different ways. China's Dynastic Cycles Eureka and Inspiration bonus is a great combo to use with this leader to pull ahead even faster, while Mongolia's Örtöö lets it create Trading Posts instantly, which combined with Gerege, makes it easier to amass wealth and technologies.

The Vietnam and Kublai Khan pack for the Civilization VI New Frontier Pass is releasing on January 28 with an $8.99 price tag across Steam and the Epic Games Store. As usual, New Frontier Pass owners will gain it as a part of the season pass.

Rare details the Sea of Thieves Seasons battle pass system
      by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe

Rare announced last month that Sea of Thieves will be going through another major overhaul soon after the new year, and that time has almost arrived. The game is moving to a seasonal content delivery system and gaining a battle pass like many other live-service titles. Today, Rare provided the first complete look at the new systems coming to the pirate adventure game later this week.

Each season will last around three months, containing an injection of new features at the start as well as events, quality of life changes, and other updates while it is active. Players will have 100 levels of Renown to climb through while a season is active, with each one offering Gold, Doubloons, and various cosmetic rewards for pirates and ships.

Simply playing the game is enough to climb levels, as almost every action - pirate or not - provides Renown. There are also special challenges named Trials that players can complete for a boost of Renown. These can include deeds such as setting skeletons on fire or simply catching a certain fish in a certain area. Pirate Legends have a few special items just for them to unlock too.

"This move to a Seasonal structure is designed to enrich the game and provide players with the freedom to enjoy Sea of Thieves their way, while making sure that a feeling of progression is present throughout a whole gameplay session," said Rare. "We know how frustrated some of you have felt when something’s gone awry and you’ve lost loot, so Seasonal play is there to let you make progress and leave satisfied every time you set sail."

Interestingly, everything mentioned above is free to achieve for all players without needing a premium pass. There is an optional paid option available named the Plunder Pass - which costs $10 in Ancient Coins - but only 11 additional premium items are given out during the first season. These items will remain exclusive to the Plunder Pass until a season is over and then arrive at the Pirate Emporium later.

Sea of Thieves Season One is slated to kick off on January 28 across PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S for players that own the game or play it via Xbox Game Pass.
