It is true, everything CBoaT said was true, World of Tanks coming to 360, Mirrors Edge 2 would be revealed, PS4 would have no DRM, Microsoft would not mention DRM, every multiplatform game at the conference never even mentioned PS4, even MGS5 one of the biggest PLAYSTATION franchises neglected to mention.

So how much did Sony pay to Bungie, Activision, Ubisoft for not mentioning XBox 360/One at the Sony conference?

Anyway, did you guys see the Halo 5 teaser? Holy crap, I'm stoked. John made Cortana's data chip into a necklace. :D

That was unexpected...emo John, lol.

Generally underwhelmed by both. I think my plan stands. I have an xbox, with gold expired, I'll buy a discount PS3 superslim and adapter to use xbox controller with it, but games I want to play at discount (Uncharted series, Last of Us, Jak Daxter Series, GoW series) and let my PC be next gen for a couple years.

Any thoughts of next gen owning PCs can be dismissed now. Don't do much multiplayer but as long as I can use Netflix on PS3 for free I'm good.

The most exciting game for me was the Indie Abe's Odyssey HD remake which is coming to all platforms. First on PS4, but I'll wait for the PC version.

Well, they said they believe in their current model, were they actually don't use any kind of limitation for their games, it's up to the publisher to put DRM (and the consumer to buy or not to buy that) note how DIFFERENT is this from the current approach of xbox 1, were the public would indeed buy and still wouldn't avoid the limitation on used games.

Because it's human nature I guess, fans of one have to argue with fans of another and so on.

NO. Because people are on a limited budget and can't afford both! Not everyone can get both. For many, it's either Xbox or PS but can't both!

The Xbox One exclusives right now are NOT really that awesome, plain and simple! Unlike their glory old days!

I don't know what games some of you liked, but they are too derivative, not good games at all!

Yet again you are stating your opinion as fact. If you don't think the Xbox exclusives look awesome, that's fine, but that doesn't mean that other people can't possibly think they are awesome. Get real.

Wait, where did you hear about FF and KH3? I know it was said the new FF14 MMO is just for PS4, not that I care about that at all though. But they didn't say anything about FF15 which left it open to be on Xbox as well. I thought KH3 was exclusive to PS4 though?

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to stay connected; it's called Xbox 360" - Don Mattrick, Microsoft's President of Interactive Entertainment Business

This kind of arrogance is going to be their undoing.

Sony tried to 'hint' and play that these games (including Destiny) was going to be Sony exclusive, but that wasn't the case.

And... I personally have no issue with what he said. You really hate MS don't you? Oh well, I'll still be getting one because they make great games like Halo. I'll get Sony because they made great games too. And I'll continue to play games on my PC.

By "hint", do you mean "showed off at their conference"?

Unless they said only on, or exclusively on then it is safe to assume it's not Playstation only.

by the way, I thought we were going to see the graphical prowess of your favorite console? things looked pretty underwhelming, with massive freezes and bad framerate issues.

Well, once again it comes down to exclusives, with the new FF and KH3 also multiplatform I have a few less reasons to get a PS4 now though I still plan to later on. Seems all the good stuff is in 2014 anyways so no rush for it. I still plan on playing a number of current gen titles, new Assassins Creed, new Batman etc.

So when MS did it, that's basically "They said it was exclusive even though it wasn't". when Sony did the same thing it wasn't even a "hint" that it was exclusive. ;)

There is nothing arrogant about the way he put it out or said it. He pretty much said if you don't have online connectivity, don't buy Xbox One.

Wow freezes and framerate issues on games that aren't out till 2014?

XB1 frame rate wasn't exactly stable.

nice backpeddling. weren't ps4 games supposed to blow xbox one games out of the water, with its much more powerful hardware though? not only did the graphics not deliver, but the performance was sub par and still struggling. im only bringing this up because you guys were adamant that ps4 games were going to look and perform better. I guess we saw what happens when people speculate on performance based on max raw performance of certain components in a system, which like I had been saying all along, doesnt tell the whole story.

Don't worry, they can always get help from the cloud... Shuhei Yoshida says PS4 can offload calculations to cloud

...oh wait.

The arrogance, it burns!

p.s. Happy Birthday.

What really saddens me is that there is a really good lineup of games coming to the X1. This controversy online is just keeping us from simply enjoying all there is to enjoy about the games.

Killer Instinct for instance is shaping up to be excellent based on hands on previews. The devs are carting it around for people to play test it, and they are really passionate about the game and fighting game scene. They will be taking it to EVO and pushing it to be adopted in the tournaments. They even made sure they had connections within MS to make sure x1's can be provided to run the big tournaments that are stripped down to only what is needed for the tournament (i.e. no Kinect, etc)

But there are other games shaping up nicely as well. I really hope MS can do something to cool everyone off a bit and lay out reasonable plans between now and launch. I want to get back to debating which games are the best, not all this drm stuff. I guess I'm a frustrated gamer at the moment lol. MS messed up pr wise, but they can and should fix things over the next few months.

They laid out some good theories and shared some useful info.

The comment section, however, is a wasteland of insanity.

MS has to show how their services can be used. They need to keep their claims in check and just explain it to us. I find it hard to believe that MS invested all of the time and money creating this collection of servers and the interface with their console simple as a PR stunt or some last minute 'response' to Sony. You can't just whip this stuff together. Heck look at Sony, it will be well into 2014 before the basic Gakai services are up and running.

This tech has a purpose. MS need to show us all what is possible. It doesn't need to be some revolutionary feature, so just they just need to lay it out.

I think it'll mostly be used for stuff like The Division or Destiny, where you've got this open world drop in/out MP style where you have multiple people playing the game and then joining with other players. With a system where each group has it's own server you then need to manage handing off control when a new server joins (or such), having everything run over Azure would simplify that a great deal (And it can natively scale to demand, if nobody is playing a game they wouldn't run any server instances)

They've spoken about handing MP matches "in the cloud", it seems like a great fit.

Doing MP on the cloud side is just the start. Basically with the XB1 all the MP in games now should be dedicated servers, no more Peer-to Peer hosting like with the 360. God I hate when the hosts connection dies in the middle of a match, now that won't be a problem. Other developers have said that they're going to offload AI to the cloud, that frees up the CPU to do other things. Also when more of the game world is online, on the server, then even more server side stuff can happen, they also said physics for example.

So how can this help SP? Well, with more and more games starting to have online elements/worlds even for SP (Destiny for example) then a developer could have new parts of the "world" be online, and other parts be local. Smaller levels can be local fully, where performance from the local hardware is fine for that smooth 60fps everyone likes to go on about. Then you can go into these larger open areas that could be online, on the cloud. Game is still SP though, from your point of view, it's just that now you switched to on online level that's maybe, 2-4x the scale with way more things going on in it without having any impact on your gaming experience because you don't notice any performance drop.

Sure when there is no internet connection then those parts of the "world" would be off limits, but I'd say overall, the idea behind this hybrid mixing of pure SP local levels + larger online yet still SP levels with added co-op/team drop-in/drop-out options would make for some very very good games.

    • Not a single company as small or large it may be is obligated to subsidize its products and sell them at a loss. Your way of thinking is socialist and as a West German with a German brother state but impoverished by state dictatorship and a socialist command economy situated to the East i can tell you - this kind of thinking very quickly leads to products not being produced anymore at all.
    • Apple reportedly has a second-generation iPhone Fold planned for 2027 by Hamid Ganji The iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated tech products expected to debut this fall. It will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, ushering in a new product category for the company. While the first generation has yet to hit the shelves, a new leak suggests Apple has already begun work on its successor. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claims that the second-generation iPhone Fold has already been confirmed, meaning Apple could launch a successor in fall 2027. The foldable iPhone is also reportedly referred to as the “iPhone Ultra,” though it remains unclear whether Apple will ultimately choose that branding, especially as Samsung is rumored to rename the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra this year. The leaker also claims that the second-generation foldable will feature a wider folding display while reusing the same screen found in the first generation. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer screen in a passport-style form factor. It has already been reported that Apple plans to change its iPhone release cycle in 2026 to spread launches throughout the year. Under this strategy, the iPhone Fold is expected to debut this fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 are expected to arrive later in 2026 or in early 2027. Speaking of the iPhone Air, Digital Chat Station says Apple remains undecided about a third-generation model. The company is reportedly waiting to see how the iPhone Air 2 performs in the market, and if sales disappoint, a successor may never materialize. As we reported this week, the iPhone Air has not been scrapped from Apple’s plans. The second-generation model is reportedly scheduled for spring 2027 and could introduce upgrades such as an additional rear camera for ultrawide photography and improved battery life.
    • ahh yes the good old your opinion differs from mine so you are therefore insane lol destiny 1 had no agenda pushing and was a massive success of a game, if you clearly look online the team for some reason thought they had too many men on the team and went on a woman and dei recruitment drive and we all know how destiny 2 performed from then on in
    • The limited imaginations and business acumen of non-dominant players is simply that: the abject lack of creative business acumen. Businesses often want to operate in a financially-rewarding marketplace (free market economics) and/or exit/cash-out at maximal financial recompense. Money is their incentive; regulations are both their obstacles and their tools; politics is their means of influencing the marketplace. Google, in this story's example, is crying that AWS and Azure are "too dominant" -- cuz Google Cloud is not printing as much money as Alphabet wants (although it is still dramatically more than they actually need). The EU DMA should truly follow-the-money and treat the EU as its own sovereign nation in order to protect European market players: Domestic entities are exempt from market-influence regulations until absolute monopoly is achieved; Foreign (non-EU/non-Euro) entities are all regulated via stricter DMA measures whereby regulated partnership with independent domestic entity becomes the only way for foreign entities to 'tip the scale' for favorable financial remunerations. Basically create a dual-track aligning with China's foreign investment models. In my eyes, this is the only way to properly protect the European marketplace beyond the current dot-com/ai-bubble/social-media crazes.
