I have 2 kind of big balance issues with some guns that I hope are fixed.

First the range on the shotgun seems to be rather extreme for how much damage it can do, it can kill at decent range faster than the assault rifle or smg.

Second the smart pistol takes literally 0 skill to use. You don't have to be anything close to accurate or tactical with it. It takes the term spray and pray to a whole new level. Either it needs to take more shots to kill or have it's range reduced by quite a bit.

Compared to those two the assault rifle and smg seem under powered.

Not that I'm dismissing it in Titanfall but shotguns are notoriously broken in just about every MP IMO. They still drive me nuts in BF even though the same complaints are made after every entry in the series.

Completely agree on the smart pistol though, I couldn't believe that was in the game.

They just need to make the shotguns have more spread at range. I've never held to the idea that shotguns should stop being effective after 10 feet because that's not how real ones work. But something needs to be done about them.

And then the smart pistol...that's going to be the ultimate noob cannon from now on. Who needs noob tubes when you can be aiming in a complete different direction and still get kills.

As soon as I used the smart pistol in the tutorial I thought, "Yeah, people are going to want this nerfed."

I continued playing today, actualy played the Capture The Flag Mode (forgot what its called) and that was the most fun I had so far.

Still only a MP game though. And I actually kick some major butt with the Shotgun :)

The other balance issue is the ridiculous isntakill kick melee. I'm fine with the instakill from behind, but being able to run around spamming kick and getting 1 hit kills is pretty stupid.

Ugh, that had to be the stupidest thing that happened to me. Full health, kicked straight on, death.

That was another one that I forgot to mention. That sort of thing belongs in CoD and not very many people like it there either.

The game is fun but my jaw dropped when I got punched in the face by a titan. Was not expecting that. With those talking about the smart pistol you have to wait for it to acquire a lock. It needs to acquire 3 locks for a human player and it has to be at close range. It could use a little tweaking.

Something else that could use a little tweaking is trying to jump in and out of windows. I die more often trying to get through a window than in any other way. It seems like the size of the window is smaller than it should be or something and I usually end up gliding along the wall.

Besides those things the game is extremely fun. Which is good.

It locks on to fast or it can lock on from to far away. Choose one of those two things but it's going to be nerfed that's just about guaranteed. It offers very little if any chance for counter play in close quarters because the person using it doesn't have to be accurate. Even with the shot gun you have to at least aim your shots.

They've since added more info to that. I hope there is more than 2 weapons of each type like they've found there. That doesn't seem like that big of a variety.

Though there is 3 side arms listed so who knows.

I think it locks pretty slow when you are locking pilots. Unless you are following on a pilot for some seconds from behind, it's faster to kill with another weapon. So I think it's perfectly balanced

I don't think it locks on too fast, In the time it takes you to triple lock on a player they could easily riddle you full of bullets from an assault rifle. Don't forget that if you fire before the 3rd lock and miss you loose the lock completely and have to hope they miss before you can re-lock.

There's been countless times where I've been close quarters with someone and we are rapid firing because neither of use wants to take the chance of waiting for that lock.

I will add it is crazy OP against grunts though :p

Of course it will - what part of SMART are you not getting?

A "smart weapon", by both definition and design, has targeting-assistance measures designed into it - even if nothing more than a guidance package or all-condition laser sights (both of which the smart pistol has).  Further, the smart pistol, despite all that, has the shortest range of any personal-defense weapon in the game - the frigging SHOTGUN has longer range, let alone any rifle.

For pilot/personal defense, it's the smart pistol up close, shotguns at longer ranges, and the rifle at the longest range - other than the fact that the smart pistol is just that, in what way is it any different from BF or CoD?

The part where you don't have to play smart to use it.

The part where you don't have to play smart to use it.

However, all the while someone is working to get into smartpistol range, they are vulnerable to longer-ranged weapons (rifles, shotguns, Titan ordnance).  Even if  you're in a Titan, ignoring the crunchies can get you blowed up.

Finally managed to get some playtime last night. Played half a dozen team deathmatch games and absolutely loved it. Despite playing with people that were higher levels then myself I never felt at a disadvantage. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get some more playtime in over the next few days, but at this moment I'm still pre-ordering and can't wait for the release day.

For those saying the smart pistol is overpowered, I disagree. As many people have said for human players it does take three locks for a kill which can take some time. When playing with the smart pistol it was always 50/50 against a human player.

Can't wait for the full release.

You act like that's not extremely easy to do.

I played til level 10 in the first 2 days. I haven't felt a drive to start it back up since then.

Props for native controller support and the ability to skip the tutorial all together.

It's probably too arcadey for me. The default assault rifle fires like a paintball gun.

I'm feeling a lot better about the amount of content and variety that will be in the final game after hearing about all the modes and maps, but has anyone read info about the monsters that are detailed in a Titanfall art book that was released early?  They go into great detail covering a range of creatures that are in the game.

It sounds like this could be a big deal, adding more variety to the game, maybe as something that is only in the campaign multiplayer.

Like I said, you basically just wear it - like a suit of clothes, or a uniform.  That means you can mix it up melee-style in a Titan - however, unless you're out of ammo, I can't see why you WOULD.  (You can do it in other "mech" games, too - Hawken, Blacklight, even the original Mewchwarrior - however, whenever I did it, I was out of ammo.)

You act like that's not extremely easy to do.

I'm saying that, due to the rather hectic nature of the battlefield, it's not that WORTH it to do - even dismounted and on the ground, I've died more often being merely stepped on than being shot by a smartpistol.  (However, that could be because I'm more likely to get rock-throwing-close to enemy Titans so I can whack them with anti-Titan weapons - the closeness does tend to screw with smartweapon locks; the minus is, of course, that I am extremely vulnerable to squishing.)

    • Ninja Theory was great until Microsoft acquired them. They let them spend a decade on two games, with a third on the way, that explore mental health and were OK interactive experiences. Sony appears to be able to choose better IPs to develop, particularly single player. I'm probably going to buy a PS5 just for Wolverine and God of War Laufey (which reminds me of Heavenly Sword when Ninja Theory was with Sony making games).
    • Good riddance to a terrible studio. They've done nothing but over promise features and fall flat with the releases they've put out.
    • hey buddy, i don't appreciate the attitude. Can't wait to see the results.
