Yeah, 35-36 GB of the total is uncompressed audio files. I believe one of the devs said they didn't want users PCs having to deal with compressed audio files so they could free up more memory and processor time for everything else. Cuz you know, PCs haven't been able to use mp3's or ogg's for years because it's just to CPU intensive a thing...

Also this is only on PC. The Xbone version is 18 GB I believe I read.

Listening to an mp3 isn't quite the same as simultaneously decompressing 64-128 audio files/streams and then mixing them together for surround and effects and then streaming out as one high def audio stream. And the Xbox one has this built in audio processor chips on the APU that makes this child's play. Hence why they could use compressed audio on that and not PC.

I'm sure the guys who actually program the game and have tested it knows what they're talking about. Any gamers should know by now that audio can significantly impact game performance.

Played several hours today (about 4 or 5, I think), since I'm off work this week, and managed to get up to rank 27. It's just an insanely addictive and fun game. The beta left me slightly worried the titans wouldn't be as fun as playing on foot, but once I got a titan loadout I enjoyed that wasn't an issue.

Please - HDDs are still cheap, cheap, CHEAP.  You would no more put games on an SSD than you would a bunch of video files - you park those porky files on the largest HDD your PC can swallow and you can afford.  (Look up HDD pricing at your retailer or e-tailer of choice - they are how much for 1 TB drives?)

You put games on SSDs to reduce loading times and eliminate stutter brought on by loading assets.  The stutter issue is a gamebreaker in some games without an SSD (Hi, Diablo 3!)

 

Do you put every game on an SSD? No, of course not. Some games won't benefit, but stuff like Titanfall, GuildWars 2, BF4, Diablo 3 absolutely should be on an SSD.

Any gamers should know by now that audio can significantly impact game performance.

Game audio has been practically ignored for a decade.  How could they?  Hell, there's stuff I'm not even sure I understand anymore and I try to learn everything about it.

 

Perhaps things will change with win8s hardware audio channel and TrueAudio happening...we can only hope.

Can you give me a few games that best show this problem? I'm curious. I have a large SSD so I tend to throw games on there when I want to, but for the longest time I loaded them on my HDD and to be honest I don't see a major difference during actual game play.

 

I would like testing it on my rig and see if it is just something I never paid attention to.

You won't see any difference during gameplay with a proper rig.  The load times are the issue.

 

(Note: I do find SSHDs an acceptable compromise and plan to get one at some point.)

50GB haha. My SSD is too precious to waste on stuff like this. Hell, even my Skyrim, which is all tricked out with HD texture packs and mods, only comes to 30GB. I'll pass...

 

Even WoW with its massive world and all the expansions is not even close to 50GB.

 

I planned to get it but i might pass. I don't have an HD anymore in my comp just two SSDs (120GB and 240GB). I'm fine for now (80GB of free space combined) but i can't afford to waste 50GB for only one single game. between 20 and 30gb per game is viable. I don't really want to install an hd in my comp just for this game.

Got a few more rounds in this morning. Getting into games is so fast. I do with the lobby clock was a little faster though. No hiccups, no tearing and no framerate issues. They really did their homework on this game.

 

Finally got to experience it, very awesome MP. Lots of fun, as Larry said having the grunts and spectres in there is a nice touch to help boost morale - and also a cool tribute to Halo i think! Gameplay is superb, but quoted Kvally because on my X1 the screen tearing is abominable. Really distracting. Don't mind the resolution, expected it to be another upsized 360 game and indeed it is (I mean the file for Garden Warfare is bigger, come on). Resolution is not a big issue, nor did i notice any framedrops. Guess my X1 decided to balance performance by ripping the screen refresh a new one...

 

But still, highly recommended to anyone on the fence - just wall run across that thing!

Does the Titanfall menu show the current # of players online? (XB1 or PC, or possibly a stretch.. both?) Could anyone please let me know, if PC, a screenshot would be awesome. Otherwise, just post if it does at what the current # of players online is at your time of posting. Thanks very much.

Beat the Militia Campaign last night, while I think the little story sequences in the corner are a nice touch, I am just too busy trying to stay alive to understand what is happening.

It's been a blast so far and I look forward to playing some more, especially with the AU\NZ servers coming online today!

    • Forza Horizon 6 gets big bug-fixing and balancing update by Taras Buria Today, Playground Games released a big Forza Horizon 6 update with a long list of fixes, patches, and balancing tweaks that the studio promised earlier. Version 375.327 is now available on Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox, offering users improvements for AI, audio, design, performance, road discovery, upgrades, visuals, online play, and more. Some of the most notable changes in the Series 2 update include rebalanced drivatars, particularly their difficulty and race start behavior.
