Secret settings uncovered in iOS 7

Though the visual elements took center stage, Apple showed off plenty of new functionality last week when it unveiled its completely redesigned iOS 7 software. According to a new report, however, there might be a number of upcoming new functions that the company is saving for iOS 7?s public launch this coming fall. iOS developer Hamza Sood has discovered a series of secret settings menus in the iOS 7 beta that reveal intriguing features such as new system-wide gestures and the ability to hide default apps.

The secret menus were first detailed by 9to5Mac, and they uncover many additional settings and functions that are not currently enabled in Apple?s first iOS 7 beta, but that may be enabled in future builds. Alternatively, these may be features that Apple has tested and chosen not to implement at this time.

Some of the more interesting discoveries include settings for an edge-swipe gesture, a corner-swipe gesture and a press-and-hold gesture; additional programmable gestures; settings options for parallax, dock, zoom animations and new folders; icon animations; adaptive display tinting; nested folders; and the ability to hide default Apple apps.

A video of the hidden settings menus follows below along with some screenshots.

I think it looks childish....

Which is why it's PERFECT for mom and pop. I'm not saying everyone who uses an iPhone is an idiot, the iOS has been known to be simple enough for your grandma to pickup and use. So while it might look childish to you I think it still retains its simplicity to the average user.

Apple does not care about anyone with half of a technological brain. They are developing for EVERYONE ELSE.

The iOS was simple enough up until now for everyone to use, why make it look like it's for dumb people?!

I am not a designer, far from it but there has to be at least 1,000 different way they could have re-design it in a much better way than this.

Apple could care less about anyone with half of a technological brain. They are developing for EVERYONE ELSE.

The only thing I really dislike about it are the icons.  I don't see any reason why they had to evolve them into an overly colorful and childish theme.  For example, why is the Game Center icon colorful bubbles?  It doesn't make sense and it's straight-up stupid.  There's a few more that are equally puzzling.  Hopefully they change some of those icons and tone back a bit on the overall brightness (whites and neons) of everything.

BECAUSE IT IS FOR DUMB PEOPLE!!!!!! That is Apples core user base. I'm being serious!

Hmm, with that said i'm afraid to ask if you are an iPhone user....

Personally i wouldnt call them dumb i prefer to call them blind... To me it's like believing in god (my personal opinion, not looking to start a religions fight here), you believe in something blindly no matter what. Same with Apple, their core users are just Apple fanatics and will buy Apple no matter what....

I would have to say that people who honestly believe this are blind. Having owned all three major phone platforms, iPhone remains the easiest to use on a daily basis. That is all people care about in the end. They don't care how many cores it has or any of the other nonsense that people keep trying to argue about. Apple was the first easy to use smart phone and by breaking into that market first, it got tons of people early on that don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to have the same experience on another phone just because of the name.

Are people really that dumb that they don't realize that switching from one platform to another is not just a matter of buying the phone? I have about $200 in apps on my iPhone and $50 on my Android. You have to be retarded to believe that I am blind because I don't want to spend $200 to transfer my app purchases just because "boo apple" The iPhone does exactly what I bought it to do and the Android does exactly what I bought it to do. People who believe we live in a world where it is one or the other are the truly blind.

This exactly.  My current phone is an iPhone, and it's my intention to buy another one at the end of the summer when my contract is up.  It's fast, stable, easy to use, and there's nothing groundbreaking on other phones that would draw me to switch.  I would like a slightly bigger screen, but the lag of Android and lack of Win Phone apps are huge reasons why I won't switch.  At the end of the day, it's just a damn phone. :)

I think iOS 7 looks fine expect for some icons in Springboard and those border-less "buttons".

I think it's silly to try to get rid of such common UI elements emulating the real world while sticking to the on/off buttons and sliders which still do that. The problem with buttons without borders is that their texts blend together with the rest of the text. Yes, color to differentiate, but only because they're forced to, and kind of gives the UI color where it wouldn't need to have it. I understand they're trying to make the UI feel "light", but there's the option of light, subtle, smooth borders, you know.

I'm sure the icons will get tuned because they've got so much attention, but less so about the buttons.

As for the sliders, I've not heard many complaints on those, and don't see any problem there. Maybe the touch surface of the slider buttons could be smaller for aesthetics, but they also need to be easy to hit by tapping them. They seem to follow the theme well enough to me.

Edit: Oh and one more thing -- I worry a bit that this new white UI will look garish when using it in bed for some late evening browsing and it may also contrast a bit too much to be comfortable with the black iPhones.
