why won't it let me search for IBM threads ???????????????????????? :crazy:

something to do with neowin database. when you convert to full text. IPB is only allowing 4 chars minium. don't know why. I have the same issue when I search for PHP on my forum.

Yeah, you need 4 characters because that's a limitation of MySQL. It indexes only words 4 or more characters, otherwise our index would be HUGE and the major benefit of having it would be nullified because a super large index is harder to work with.

so theres no way this will change in the near future then? there have been several occasions i have wanted to do a 3 character search, less than 3 very rarely

Full text search in MSSQL Server by default will ignore common words and single letters like a to z, is, of, the etc.

But this is entirely configurable and you can set it to not ignore the words you consider as important for your search result. Changing this has no impact on search performance.

I hate using search, mostly because there is hundreds of results and its hard to find what you want.

Why can't you search for words with 3 chars in or less?

It's a bit annoying since I often want to search for words such as id3, mp3, aac, php and so on.

it's a database limitation, if you indexed all 3 letter words, it would slow everything down.
