TDQuiksilver
Since I'm new to the whole Nvidia scene.. I am going to purchase a Gainward GeForce3 Ti200. Now does that mean I should install Detonator drivers or do I have to use the drivers Gainward will give me?
TDQuiksilver
And also, what utility am I going to want to use to OC my core speed and all that good stuff? :ermm:
Jackalo
Depends on what you want. Stability = Factory drivers Speed = Detonator drivers As for the overclocking... Wait for NVmax 4. =)
TDQuiksilver
but I can also achieve stability from the Dets cant I? It's not like I'll crash every 5 minutes... and NVMax is the proggie Im gonna want to OC my Nvidia card? nice.
Jackalo
You'd be suprised about the stability of Detonators... Just don't do anything too extensive. =)
TDQuiksilver
LoL, I dont plan on burnin' it... but I definately want to get above the standard GF3 speeds, and maybe above the Ti500 speeds. I'll be precautious to make sure I dont fry it.
Jackalo
You won't get it above the TI 500 speeds and not fry it. There is a pretty high gap between the two, even though the performance doesn't show it. http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=geforce3 I don't even know why people bother to overclock their GeForce3's... I mean, they're already clocked faster than my old computer was... (PII 400MHz)
TDQuiksilver
LoL.. well.. okay, now the next question is... Det 23.11 or 23.12?
Jackalo
I don't seem to get the NV4disp loop error with the 23.12 drivers, but that's only because I can't seem to get any games to run. =) My advice, go with 22.80. =)
TDQuiksilver
Okay, thats what Ive been readin.. stick with the 22.80s for now until a newer Det is released. Has there been any specific boards that seem to cause problems with the 23.11/12 drivers or anything? Ive got an Intel based board, so who knows eh? Jackalo
I've got a PNY Verto GF3 TI 200. It doesn't like the drivers what-so-ever.
Jackalo
Urg, forgot to say this... I don't think that it has to do with any specific boards out there, just all of them in general.
TDQuiksilver
So the 22.80 it is :)
Jackalo
Does that pretty much answer all of your questions?
tagerd0g
I'm using the 23.11 with my visiontek ti200 with a minor problem, but other than that, it works fine for me. I have played a few games, from Quake (all 3) to Emperor for Dune with no errors at all. So maybe I'm just lucky. I did try the higher numbered Dets but had more problems (BSOD loops, graphic shearing in some games, etc), so I'm sticking with 23.11. The minor BSOD problem is when I fast switch to another user. I don't know why it does this but since I share this comp with two other people, it can prove annoying. The only difference between each user is one of us uses the classis theme and the two others uses XP styles. I also hate the fact my monitor quickly shuts off then back on when changing users; though I am not sure if it's the video card or what.
TDQuiksilver
Yes, that pretty much answers it all.. cant wait to tweak her a bit and try it out on RTCW, Q3, and CS.. should be nice
Jackalo
Well, if you're ever playing CS on UK2.NET server's, you'll probably see me. I alt-tab out of CS every now and then just to check these boards. =)
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 21, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2002 Slightly off topic here, but i'm looking to building my own PC in the next few weeks/months. I pretty much settled on a geforce 3 but is the extra ?150 worth it for the Ti500 over the Ti200? Its gonna be on combo with either a p4 2.2 or XP2000+
Jackalo
No, the difference in today's games is marginal. Just go with the GeForce3 TI 200, it's all the power you'll need for a few years.
TDQuiksilver
UK2.NET eh? heh.. Ill show up sometimes.. look for InfernoShock :dead:
