NEW YORK (AP) -- KFC is tossing out the chicken bones and the quaint image of founder Col. Harland Sanders as it gets ready to test a slightly more upmarket restaurant.

The fried chicken chain says it's opening a location called "KFC eleven" early next month near its headquarters in Louisville, Ky., that will serve flatbreads with toppings, rice bowls, salads and only boneless pieces of its Original Recipe chicken.

The restaurant's exterior won't feature Sanders, whose bespectacled, white-bearded likeness has long been front and center at traditional KFC locations. But the name of the test restaurant is a reference to the 11 herbs and spices Sanders used in the Original Recipe.

KFC eleven's opening is a reflection of the challenges facing traditional fast-food chains such as McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's. The problem is that people in their 20s and 30s are increasingly heading to chains such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panera Bread, where they feel they get better food for slightly higher prices.

In a note to investors about KFC's test, Janney analyst Mark Kalinowski said that such "fast-casual" chains remain the fastest-growing segment in the restaurant industry. He noted that other chains, included Applebee's and Red Lobster, have recently started testing similar formats as well.

John Cywinski, president of KFC, said in an interview that people often equate KFC with "buckets of fried chicken on the bone," primarily as a dinner or weekend option. He said the company hoped to use the new test location to learn how it can update its offerings and draw in a broader customer base, particularly women.

KFC eleven will serve side dishes such as waffle fries, garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw along with Original Recipe chicken. But the chicken will be the boneless variety the chain rolled out in April as an easier-to-eat alternative to its traditional breast, thigh and drumstick pieces.

KFC just doesn't appeal to me. I find the smell repulsive and I'm not a great fan of fried foods at the best of times, with the exception of fries. Removing the bones and changing the d?cor won't have any influence on me. I much prefer Subway and McDonald's.

Looks good but I'd definitely use Land O' Lakes Light and somehow you have to get the Andouille flavor. Don't know how popeye's does it, they don't use the sausage. I don't know if there's such a thing as Andouille seasoning, but that's what really made me love it.

Never liked RB&R before. I'll work with that when I'm going high on carbies.

When I was a child, we were so poor; mum and dad would take us down to KFC on a Friday night so we could lick other people's fingers.

Anyway, I prefer Los Pollos Hermanos - their sauce just seems to have an extra kick....

Where do the bones go ... hmm  Are they growing genetically modified boneless chickens ?!

Your late they been doing this for years now. The chickens they use have no beaks or feathers. The animal has been modified to the point where they can not call it chicken. Why do you think they dont spell out what KFC stands for anymore? ITs because they are not allowed to actually call it chicken.

You have big sheds, but nobody?s allowed in, and inside these big sheds are twenty-foot high chickens. Because of all the chemicals you put in them. And these chickens are scared. They don?t know why they?re so big. They go ?oh why am I so massive?? And they?re looking down on all the other little chickens, and they think they?re in an aeroplane because all the other chickens are so small? do you deny that? No. His silence, I think, speaks volumes.

In some asian countries KFC did tries to replace the Colonel Sanders logo with a new one: A white-colored, fat, smiling, bi-pedal chicken like creature.

But in following year Avian Influenza outbreak happens, then those outlet reverts back into Col.Sanders logo.

A question: why its 'eleven'? would that has something to do with 7-eleven chains?

KFC Jamaica is the best, the chicken is the seasoned properly down to the bone. Its an expensive treat you have every now and then. I have learned to avoid the side orders, you save money. To be honest though, KFC is not like what it use to be growing up. When I was young and drive in the vicinity of a KFC with my dad, you could smell KFC just driving by. It just had a classic taste, but I think that classic smell and taste was probably bad for your health that's why the taste has evolved so much. Then again, its a rare treat, but when I was at community college, I had it almost every day, reason being, I had to walk past it everyday, so I couldn't resist. Not to mention, it was cheaper. In 2003 KFC cost Jamaica $176 for a 2 piece meal deal. In 2013, a 2 piece meal deal cost $500, 650 if you add side orders such as coleslaw. That's US $6.50.

It still works out cheaper though than say Dominoes and other restaurants. Chinese is the most expensive and the worst. I tried a Chinese restaurant last month, spent $40 US (4,000 Jamaican) on lunch boxes and it was only good enough for my dog.

KFC was good when I was younger, but as the years have gone on it has gotten greasier and greasier.  It also seems like some of their side dishes have gotten kind of generic tasting.  I live in Kentucky and don't have easy access to one, and have found that Lee's chicken, in my opinion, tastes much better, and you don't have to pat the grease off with a paper towel before you eat it.

Will have to check out a KFC to see if they're improving though, haven't been to one in a couple of years.  Would like to see them succeed, if only out of a mild sense of home-state pride since they're based out of Kentucky.

Honestly unsure if you're serious or not...if you are then do you have some legit links to some articles?

Assuming you are being serious, from what I remember they changed their name to KFC due to licensing reasons since Kentucky trademarked their state name.  They also mention chicken dozens of times on their website so their goes your theory on why they supposedly don't call it chicken anymore.

In the US El Pollo Loco Whether you're looking for a burrito, a salad, a quesadilla, a family chicken meal or healthy dining choices, we've got something delicious for everyone.has knocked out KFC with there healthy flaming of chicken rather then frying the KFC way

A friend of mine who use to breed chickens told me a lot of what goes on for those chicken farms. Normally a chicken takes many months to fatten up and be the right size for slaughter. He told me how they used to feed the chickens special food that makes them grow up from a chick to full chicken in 6 weeks. They did this because 6+ months is way too long a time for a return on investment. He also told me about how chickens were modified to not have feathers because the de-feathering takes too long to do by hand. I don't have links but when he gets back from vacation I will try to get him to share where he got the KFC info from.

I really don't want to see the farms where Kfc gets their chicken from. Kfc does have good chicken, it tastes good in the beginning, but I feel sick after eating it.

    • Honestly that feels even more useless than it did when Win11 was first released. In 2021, the uproar was somewhat justified, but only when comparing how good we've had it since Windows 7. Prior to that, a new Windows release would often require new, or very recent hardware. Windows XP wouldn't run (in any usable way) on hardware released when it's predecessor Win98 was released (let's ignore ME). It was time to shift the goal post, and the way Microsoft did that was actually ok. People have still had another FIVE YEARS of free software support with Windows 10, and those of us who want to have used these tools to bypass the limitations, all while understanding the impacts that may have. Most laptops don't last 5 years (sadly), so now the youngest unsupported hardware is 9 years old, and apparently has another year of support with Windows 10. That's good. Meanwhile, understanding the impacts and limitations, I have my 2013 laptop running Win11 perfectly fine. The thing that's failing on it is the hardware, the 2.5" SATA cable/chip is failing and corrupting the SSDs I put in. Thankfully it has a functional M.2 sata drive that works fine!
    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
